Keep on Singing:  A Ballad of Marian Anderson
                             Myra Cohn Livingston    ISBN 0-8234-1098-6

Marian Anderson was a world renown singer in the early 1900's who had to overcome racial barriers to be heard.  This beautiful book narrates and illustrates her life in lyrical rhyme.  It clearly and concisely describes the "courage and dignity of one of America's ground-breaking women."  Additionally, the final page of the book consists of end notes of references, both literary and musical for those who would like to do further research.

The Kodály Method            Lois Choksy     ISBN 0-135-16873-2

This is not a book that I would just give to my students for them to peruse...not because they shouldn't see it but because it's a pedagogical resource, not children's literature.  But, since it very much pertains to children, I've included it on this page.  This is an excellent resource for anyone trained (or just interested) in using the Kodály Method for teaching their class.  This book goes step-by-step through lessons and and the reasonings behind them.  this book has been invaluable to me as well as a number of my fellow music educators.  If you have an interest then I think it's en excellent book to have in your library!
