RELEASING OUR FAITH ON PURPOSE

Mark 11.12-25

This scripture shows us that Jesus specifically and intentionally released His faith toward the tree. "He answered it … answered means to respond to something…" Jesus was talking directly to the tree. A FULL-GROWN TREE THAT SHOULD BE IN FRUIT BEARING SEASON.

Notice the time frame:

Day one – left Bethany and came to Jerusalem in the A.M. Evening of day one – left Jerusalem for Bethany (Dallas to Garland).

Day two – left Bethany in the morning, was hungry, looked at the tree, answered the tree’s non-fruitfulness, went on to Jerusalem. Left Jerusalem that evening for Bethany.

Fig tree isn’t mentioned.

Day three – left Bethany in the morning for Jerusalem, saw the withered fig tree. Listened to Jesus’ explanation, went on to Jerusalem.

A full twenty-four hours passed before any difference was noticed in the tree – and this was Jesus, God in the flesh. However the moment that He spoke the word, the Anointing went to work on the tree. Jesus never changed His words about the tree’s future.

RELEASING OUR FAITH ON PURPOSE

    1. Can be done like target practice and the bulls' eye.
    2. Can be directed toward a specific situation, thing, issue, sickness, pain, bondage or hindrance.
    3. Must be done without any doubt in the heart – didn’t say that doubt won’t attempt to enter the mind – but we must not allow it to get into the heart.

  1. When we look through the Bible, we should be looking for places where people released their faith on purpose and what prompted them to release it.
  2. Most of the examples I’ve found showed them using a tactic that has been labeled: "A POINT OF CONTACT " (Oral Roberts was the first person I heard use this phrase)

Point of contact occurs when a specific time and a specific occurrence of a specific condition being met, and they all line up at the exact moment. It is at this moment when the person has predetermined that his/her faith will be released toward God for the answer to the specific need.

Example: A radio in a car. When the radio is on, I can only enjoy it when there is power to the radio. Should I disconnect one of the battery cables, there will not be any sound from the radio, even though the radio is perfect and is turned on. However, as soon as I re-connect the battery cable, the circuit is completed and the radio will begin it’s broadcasting functions.

The radio has determined that there must be certain conditions and functions met, before it will produce it’s designed function.

Can you name those conditions? And can you name the PRIMARY "point of contact" required before the radio will produce the music?

Let’s look at a few Biblical examples and see if we can pick out the EXACT "point of contact":

Matthew 8: 1-4 "… if you will (desire to) you can…" The man had to know Jesus’ will in the matter.

Matthew 8: 5-13 "… speak the word only…" This man only needed to hear the word from Jesus’ mouth.

Matthew 9: 18-19 "… come lay your hand…" This man needed to see Jesus’ hand on the child.

Matthew 9: 20-21 "… if I may but touch…" This woman needed to touch Jesus hem and then she would release her faith. What would have happened if she had touched His hand? Notice the words of her mouth and the thoughts of her heart.

Matthew 9: 27-30 "… Jesus touched them…" What do you think was their "point of contact", or the point where/when they would release their faith for the healing power to flow?

We should ultimately grow to where we release our faith in the written - revealed Word alone.

Our attitude and thinking should get to this point:

"Lord if I can see it in your word, I will receive it and release my faith fully for the answer. And I will fully expect to see and enjoy the answer to this issue no matter how long it takes or how quickly it comes. I have flipped my switch on, and the power is flowing now, even if I don’t feel it."

Practical usage of the "point of contact":

When in a prayer line – at the moment hands are laid on me, I will release my faith toward God on His word for the answer. "Mark 16. 18 - … They shall recover."

When in a prayer line – at the moment I lay hands on someone, I will release my faith toward God on His word for the answer. "Mark 16. 18 - … they shall lay hands on … "

When praying – when I pray, I will believe I receive the answer at that moment based on the Word that promised the answer.

Can you identify other times and conditions where/when the "point of contact" method will/should work?
