There are some days just like that, where everything gets on your nerves... and then by pulling randomly a CD out of the pile, you are confronted with a music, that all of a sudden puts you back on track, that installs little by little a certain confort, and that invites you to relax and forget about everything except the music progressively penetrating you... The english word "except" is much better than the french "sauf", and the CD of Sonia Jacobsen belongs to this unusual category. Its title "Avalanche" is not at all innocent. It is really a mountain of sounds that falls upon you, naturally, with this very particular atmosphere that she creates with her soprano. Not an agressive attack, no, rather a certain persisting softness, intoxicating, not revolutionary, but with the ability of a certain nervous calmness... After "Skyline", a fusion-inspired introduction, the other titles leave space for the muscular interventions of trombonist Nils Wogram, or of pianist Andy Bemkey, with the typical nervousnes of drummers (they are two, alternating between Michael Formanek and Matt Jorgensen). An album belonging to one of the most relaxing and comfortable to discover.
