TOROS (PARSEGHIAN) KIBRITJIAN

Biography

Toros was born Toros Parseghian and educated in Aleppo, Syria in 1934. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 20. Upon his arrival in the United States he was adopted by his aunt and took her name, Kibritjian, as his. He married Madeleine Mateossian and had two children, Terese Elaine and Lisa.

Toros attended college in Syria prior to his immigrating to the United States. As a youth he developed a great interest and love for soccer, playing for many years until an auto accident ended his playing career. His strong love of the game prompted his becoming a referee and he quickly rose to the top when at age 35 he was appointed to International panel of Soccer Referees for the Federation International de Football Association (FIFA). During his fifteen years as a FIFA referee he officiated many international games and in international tournaments, as well as being one of the leading referees in the North American Soccer League and later in the Major Indoor Soccer League. Among his many referee credits are included FIFA Junior World Cup (8/1980), President's Cup, Korea (1979 & 1983), FIFA World Youth Cup, Australia (1981), NASL Soccer Super Bowl (1977) and many others. Toros is currently working with younger referees in their development as a US Soccer Federation Inspector and National Lecturer.

Toros has written Quest for the Cup, a story of a soccer referee (1986) and has plans for a sequel to In Search of A God.

Toros currently resides with his wife in Monterey Park, CA.
