Coach Daniel Alvarez returns to Fayetteville, where
he was an All State, All Conference, and Conference MVP while playing
at Pine Forest High School.
He attended Furman University where he was a four
year letterman. At Furman, Daniel was a three time All-Southern
Conference selection and the Conference MVP during his senior season.
Other honors in his senior season include:
- NSCAA first team All-American
- Named one of the top 11 players in the nation by Soccer America
- Selected for Umbro College Showcase and College Soccer News
- Led his Furman team to a 21-2-1 record and a berth in the
quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament
- Led the nation his senior year with 16 assists and set a new
single season assist record at Furman
- Broke the Furman University career assist record by compiling
41 assists over 4 years
was selected by the New York New Jersey Metrostars in the 2000 MLS
draft. After being traded to the Tampa Bay Mutiny. he decided to
play soccer in Germany. In Germany, he trained with Borussia Dortmund,
FC Cloppenburg, and FC Nurenburg.
After training in Germany, Daniel returned to the States to play
with the Charleston Battery (A-league) prior to returning to play
at Tampa Bay. During the January 2001 preseason, Coach Alvarez tore
his left ACL and is now recuperating in order to return to play
Daniel resides in Fayetteville. Recently he became engaged to Laura
Guill and they plan to wed in October 2002. In his spare time, Coach
Alvarez also enjoys running with Coach Ferrell. Alvarez is often
seen trailing Ferrell as they run, despite the age advantage he
holds over Ferrell.
