Since 1947, we have led public opinion and coalitions by taking early, principled stands on a broad range of domestic, foreign, economic, military, social and environmental issues.

 

Saturday, September 20, 2008 * 1PM to approximately 4PM (includes monthly board meeting) at the Westside Pavilion Mall 10800 W. Pico Blvd. Meeting Room A Los Angeles, CA 90064 the SCADA Foundation will host an educational forum on ballot propositions 7, Renewable Energy and 11, Redistricting. The program will include two speakers with pro and con presentations on each of the propositions. We will convene at 1PM. Following the forum, the SCADA board will discuss and vote on the two propositions and deal with other board business. There is a food court in the mall and we are permitted to bring food into the meeting room.
The Mall is located between Overland and Westwood Blvd.’s. Parking is free -- enter from Overland Blvd. and park on P5 (which is the entrance to Meeting Room A)

Proposition 1:  Safe, Reliable, High-Speed Passenger Train Bond Act for the 21st Century. YES

Proposition 2:  Treatment of Farm Animals YES

Proposition 3:  Children's Hospital Bond Act.  YES

Proposition 4:  Waiting Period and Parental Notification Before Termination of Minor's Pregnancy.  NO

Proposition 5:  Nonviolent Offenders. Sentencing, Parole and Rehabilitation. YES

Proposition 6:  Criminal Penalties and Laws. Public Safety Funding (´The Runner Initiative¡) NO

Proposition 8:  Limit on Marriage.Constitutional Amendment (which would deprive Gays and Lesbians of their right to marry). NO

Proposition 9:  Criminal Justice System. Victims' rights.  Parole.  Constitutional Amendment and Statute. NO

Proposition 10:  Bonds. Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Renewable Energy (the T. Boone Pickens ´Renewable Energy¡ initiative which would subsidize the Natural Gas Industry, not solar nor wind).  NO

Proposition 12:  Veterans Bond Act of 2008 YES

The Southern California Chapter of Americans for Democratic Action 
(SCADA) has been a longtime advocate of universal health care. As an 
organizations of activists, we  have managed to accommodate diverse 
opinions on our board as to  how to achieve this critical goal;  
SCADA has promoted various efforts toward that end.

On August 5, 2008, SCADA, as a part of the Universal Health Care 
Action Networks' Unity Initiative, invited a broad spectrum of 
universal health care activists to an informal meeting to find common 
ground and discuss strategies about how to win quality, affordable 
health care for all in 2009. The meeting was very well attended, well
