What's new at the GO Roundup? Not only did the Commodore's wife spend a year in prison for her involvement in Snow
White, but the luckless Mary Sue also wound up on the wrong side of a power struggle with
current RTC head honcho David Miscavige, and found herself cast out of the inner circle
after her husband's disappearance in the early eighties. Currently, she is reported to be
living "a quiet life" in California, however it is one with lingering ties to
the church she helped found. MSH is listed in Impact #53 as a "Patron" of IAS
for her donation of $40,000.
Update - January 28, 1998
Mary Sue has also helped the Church of Spiritual Technology maintain control of her late
husband's writings by re-registering works that would otherwise have fallen into the
public domain, or reverted to her control. The last batch of recorded re-registrations
appear in the Library of Congress database dated December, 1996. It is unclear whether MSH
receives any compensation from the CoS for her efforts.
NEW INFO! (July 16, 1998)
An anonymous correspondent tells us that not only is MSH considered enough of a
"Scientologist in good standing" to donate to the IAS, she is also onlines at
the Los Angeles org.
After serving his sentence, Henning returned to civilian life, working at Los
Angeles-based marketing company Dohring, which employed many ex-Sea Orgers, including,
until a few years ago, Guy White, Suzette Hubbard's husband. Henning was listed in Source
#67 as completing New OTV; and is also a Patron ($40 K + donation) of the IAS.
NEW INFO! (as of Feb. 13, 1998)
According to our spies on the subscription list for Source magazine, Henning Heldt was
recently listed as a "Release and Graduate" of the SOLO NOTS Auditor Certainty
Course Part II, in an issue published circa July, 1997. Congrats, Henning.
For those who like to put faces with names, here is a vintage shot
of Henning at a demonstration in Washington, DC, posing with a bunch of people dressed as
apes in protest of treatment by the FBI. Here is another shot of Henning, in full religious regalia. Both pictures from Newsweek, August 28, 1978.
UPDATED INFO! (as of Mar. 7, 1998)
It seems that Henning has spent the last few years moving and shaking his way through the
California software sector. Recent reports suggest that he worked briefly at Executive Software, run by bigwig scientologist and TNX
charter subscriber Craig Jensen. After getting his feet wet in the software industry,
Henning moved to The Software Works, a Glendale computer firm where, as our source puts
it, "almost everyone in management is a scientologist." A WISE company, perhaps?
Well, that would be impossible, wouldn't it? WISE has been dissolved, as per the IRS agreement.
Henning has also turned up on TNX, using his wife Mary's account to post
a letter of protest that was sent to CBS due to its coverage of the
mysterious death of Lisa McPherson on the primetime news magazine show Public Eye.
NEW HENNING INFO! (July 16, 1998)
A shakeup at TSW? It seems Henning no longer hangs his workaday hat at The Software Works,
having recently departed the company - and, apparently, the software industry - to return
to his old stomping grounds at Dohring. While our sources aren't sure of the exact
circumstances of his departure, rumours flying round the corporate watercooler at TSW
suggest it was due to a difference of opinion with TSW owner Bill Kilpatrick. According to
the same source, Mary Heldt may have also joined her husband at Dohring. As Matt Drudge
might say ... 'DEVELOPING.'
Snider's current status within the church is unclear. However, at last check, he was
living in Clearwater in a condo located "a stone's throw" from the Sandcastle.
Snider is listed in Source #91 as completing Flag Executive Briefing Course
Update (June 6, 1998)
According to an anonymous friend, Duke is currently working for David Morse &
Associates, a scientologist-owned insurance company based in beautiful -- and theta-heavy
-- Glendale, California. While Duke heads up the New York and Boston offices, his fellow
GO co-conspirator Tom Reitze is the secretary/treasurer of DMA Claims Administration Inc.,
also based in Glendale.
A frequent contributor to the Theta News Exchange (TNX) in 1995, Weigand was was at that time one of the key organizers of CoS efforts in Colombia, including extensive campaigns to have the tech adopted by the military, police and public schools. (Editor's comment - sounds a lot like a fulltime job to me.) Since then, he is reported to have returned to the United States, where he is a fulltime FSM.
The Number Two GO official (after MSH) during the Snow White adventures, Kember was convicted of her involvement after a lengthy extradition battle. Her current whereabouts are unknown, but she was spotted in the mid-80s at Saint Hill, where she was being "handled".
One of the chief GO planners, Budlong has found gainful employment in the computer book publishing world. He recently published a new edition of "Teach Yourself Cobol in 21 Days". His current association with the CoS is unknown, however his wife Helen is a TNX regular, and also heads up the local Operating Thetan Committee in her area.
Mitchell Hermann
When last spotted in the mid-80s, Hermann was working as - surprise, surprise - a
private investigator in - again, surprise, surprise - lovely Glendale, California. Recent
reports, however, have suggested that he has left the CoS. If he's out there, it's
unlikely that Mitchell could resist the temptation of typing his own name into a web
search engine to see what pops up. If he's out there, and feels like shedding some light
on the real story behind the Snow White exploits, we're always open to contributions here at the GO Roundup.
Come on, folks. This is the age of information! There's no excuse for having any MIAs on this list. The GO wranglers work tirelessly to collect and verify the information you send in - but until we've tracked down every last member of the GO class of '79, we've got work to do.
Gregory Willardson, Sharon Thomas, Cindy Raymond, , Gerald Bennett Wolfe AKA "Silver"
One-time GO action figure and handler of Gerald "Silver" Wolfe during the IRS escapades, being held captive by the CoS for several months evidently made a dent in this loyal officer's loyalty. Meisner turned state's evidence and testified against his former GO colleagues. Presumed to be out of the cult, current whereabouts unknown.
Unindicted Co-conspiratorsCharles Parselle (possibly Parcelle)
IMPORTANT NOTE- REMOVED FROM LIST OF UNINDICTED CO-CONSPIRATORS
Even the most careful of researchers can make a mistake, and in this case, it seems that
Mr. Parselle has been gravely wronged when his name was listed here as one of the many
unindicted co-conspirators who escaped prosecution during the Snow White debacle.
Mr. Parselle's name appears nowhere in the Stipulation, a remarkable achievement when one
considers the fact that he was Deputy Guardian Legal WorldWide from 1977 until - as far as
we know -the early eighties, coincidentally, the same time that many of the GO operations
were in full flight. Since Mr. Parselle operated out of England, it's possible he was
simply unaware of the grievious legal quagmire that was brewing on the other side of the
Atlantic. (He was, however, cited
during the court battle over the Canadian version of Snow White.)
He may have had other things on his mind, however. On September 28, 1980, Parselle, his
name incorrectly spelled "Parcelle" in the record, attended an infamous meeting on another sensitive
issue; the byzantine and legally indefensible corporate structure under which the CoS
had been operating since its founder, L. Ron Hubbard, took to the seas a decade
previously. The meeting was to brainstorm on ways to ensure that Hubbard could not be
linked to management of any CoS corporate entitites in a preemptive strike for all
concerned. For more details on the corporate re-organization, visit the Loose Ends Fraudwatch, which contains a wealth of
intriguing - if unconfirmed - information.
According to the Stipulation, Baum was part of several covert missions within the walls
of government offices, including a trip, with fellow unindicted co-conspirator Joe Lisa, to forge ID cards for fellow scientologists, and several document
theft capers. Despite his apparent penchant for extralegal shenanigans, Baum somehow found
time to squeeze law school into his busy schedule, and was called to the Bar in 1985,
making him, with Kendrick Moxon, one of two GO alumni who turned pro.
Today, Baum is a partner in Los Angeles-based law firm Baum,
Hedlund, Aristei, Guilford & Downey. According to his profile, Baum specializes in
accident cases, with a particular yen for horrific plane crashes (Editor's Note: Must
be those DC-8 flashbacks.) It's not clear whether he is still involved with the CoS,
nor whether he follows the lead of his professional colleague and co-conspirator Moxon in
doing work for the Family Firm.
NEW INFO! (As of March 7, 1998)
Well, it looks like our unindicted-co-conspirator-makes-good story needs a little
updating! When last we stumbled upon Mr. Baum, Esquire, we were unsure if his ties to the
CoS were more than nostalgic recollections of government infiltration attempts of days
gone by. It turns out that Baum, along with fellow legalist and co-religionist Paul
Hedlund and former law partner and confirmed CoS attorney George Murgatroyd, is up to his
neck in the brewing scandal over alleged financial improprieties at Digital Lightwave,
Inc. in Clearwater.
One of the top initial shareholders in DIGL at the company's Initial Public Offering in
1996, Baum also is rumoured to have done legal work for the company. Not enough,
apparently, to keep it on the straight and narrow, however. After a
"disappointing" financial statement that flew in the face of previously hyped
estimates, DIGL stock hit the skids last month, falling from over $30 to share to a low of
just $3, and shows little sign of recovery, despite frantic damage control and
'restructuring' by the embattled company.
As a result, DIGL is facing a barrage of class action lawsuits over allegations ranging
from fraudulent reporting practices to insider trading. Were Mr. Baum and his law partners
among the many shareholders left holding the bag when the stock torqued? Or did he use his
OT powers of precognition to foresee the crash?
Meanwhile, Baum, Hedlund, Aristei, Guilford & Downey
has turned up in some unusual cases recently, including a multi-million
dollar lawsuit against one of the CoS' number one corporate villians, Eli Lilly, the
maker of Prozac. Baum's law partner, fellow scientologist and TNX subscriber William
Downey confirmed happily, in a post to TNX, that "we run the firm on LRH principles,
and have a prosperous, theta environment." Except for those unindicted co-conspirator
law partners, of course.
After spending the first half of the eighties in the desert, hidden from all but his closest advisors, Hubbard "dropped the body" on January 24, 1986. His legacy liveth on.
The man who kidnapped Michael Meisner and kept him prisoner for several months, Andrus
was apparently hired by Miscavige in 1983, and spent the rest of the 80s at the Religious
Technology Centre (RTC). Current location, alas, unknown.
NEW INFO! (As of March 7, 1998)
Thanks to the tireless research efforts of a.r.s. denizens, not to mention a serendipitous
outbreak of scientology-affiliated business collapses, Brian Andrus must toil in anonymity
no longer.
Unindicted kidnapper Andrus turns up as moderator of a soon-to-be-infamous war room
meeting of TradeNet Incorporated, currently under investigation for fraudulent business
practices in Utah and Florida.
TradeNet, a pyramid-style MLM "distribution network" for the sadly completely
ineffective Laundry Ball, brought in Andrus to act as moderator when TradeNet head honchos
met in Clearwater to figure out how to defend the company against threatened class action
lawsuits and possible criminal charges. Although it is not known what Andrus' involvement
was with TradeNet before the dam burst, excerpts from the meeting,
transcripts of which were subpoenaed by the Florida Attorney General, suggest that he was
in close contact with Flag and the local OSA.
When he isn't terrorizing recalcitrant scientologists, Andrus seems to be employed as a 'consultant' to firms in the gas and oil industry, including British
Petroleum, reported to have been one of the Admin Tech success stories touted by the CoS
at this year's New Years Eve event.
A familiar face to many involved in litigation with the CoS, in 1995, Moxon represented
Jason Scott during the notorious CAN civil trial. He was last seen on 60 Minutes segment
defending CoS takeover of CAN. After Scott realized that he'd been used by the CoS and
balked at the CAN takeover plan, Moxon attempted to have his former client declared
incompetent, and asked the court to turn over conservatorship of Scott - an adult -
to him. (Ed's comment - with lawyers like that, who needs enemies?) The
incredible shrinking Church of Scientology of California, put into receivership to avoid
paying the Wollersheim judgement, was being run from Moxon's law office as of 1995. (Ed's
comment - *Runnning the CSC*? Heck, that *really* sounds like staff to me.)
UPDATED INFO (July 1998)
Kendrick Moxon has taken on a new law partner: the one and only Helena Kobrin,
familiar to many a.r.s. denizens as a Woman of Letters - sharply worded, heavily dripping
in legal threat letters, that is. Kobrin, also a longtime scientologist, is a full partner
in Moxon and Kobrin, a 'captive lawfirm' operating just a stone's throw from OSA
headquarters on Hollywood Boulevard.
Arte lives in Van Nuys, California and is a regular on TNX. As of mid-95, he was, in
his own words, "a professional speaker and consultant (over 20 years)". He also
offered to assist Las Vegas-area scns "as their FSM", although it's not clear
whether he actually *is* an official FSM. (Ed's comment Wouldn' t that be considered a
*staff* position?) Arte was also reported to have given a talk on "broad public
dissemination of Scientology PR" in California some time in 1996.
Updated Info! (As of March 7, 1998)
According to his recent posts to TNX, Arte, who refers to himself as a "Founding
Scientologist", is currently acting as president of the Oldtimers Network, or OTN. In
his own words:
"OTn (The Oldtimers Network) is dedicated to the revitalization of Founding Scientologists (1950-1964), Oldtimers (25 years in Scientology or 20 years on staff) and the preservation and recording of the early history of Dianetics and Scientology."
Apparently putting one of the most notorious unindicted co-conspirators from the Snow White case in charge of "[preserving] and recording the early history of Dianetics and Scientology" is an irony too exquisite to be appreciated by the CoS. We are, of course, certain that Arte won't gloss over the history of the Guardian's Office, the subsequent raids, arrests and prison sentences, not to mention the expulsion from Church employ of any and all scientologists who were aware of the GO's criminal activities.
Despite his unusual name, a.r.s research has turned up not one but *two* Joe Lisas, either of whom could be the former GO officer of that name.
Joe Lisa candidate #1 hails from the great state of Nevada, where, as of February '97, he was the executive director of a local boxing club, as well as dabbling in event promotion. Unfortunately, Lisa's licence seems to have been suspended later that same year after he was accused of embezzlement. Joe Lisa candidate #2 lives in Mount Penn, Pennsylvania; no further information is available on his current career.
A search of the TNX archives turned up one interesting lead, the off-hand mention of a book entitled "The Assult on Health Care Freedom"(or something really close to that) by P.Joseph Lisa, described by one TNXer as "a very interesting expose of the attempt by the orthodox medical/psychestablishemt to wipe out any form of alternative treatment - particularly anything that dosen't involve drugs." Apparently, P. Joseph Lisa's next project was to be a book detailing the CIA mindcontrol experiments. It's not clear whether he is one of the other Joe Lisas.
Updated info - Joe Lisa = Joseph Alesi?
Recent sources have suggested that the two names, Joe Lisa and Joseph Alesi, both of which
appear in the Snow White Stipulations, refer to the same person. Although it seems
improbable that the United States government would have let the CoS slip one of its famous
renaming games into an official legal document, it's also possible that, since neither
Lisa or Alesi were formally charged in the Snow White affair, this deception did not come
to light. Multiple monickers would also seem to be commonplace throughout the cult's
history of intelligence operations, as well as for some senior executives, as the case of
the mysterious "Marty" Mark Rathbun will
show.
INTRIGUING DEVELOPMENT! (July 1998)
On a recent radio show featuring outspoken cult critic Arnie
Lerma, a caller identifying himself as "Joe Lisa" had some interesting
tidbits to add to the discussion of scientology. Could this be our Joe Lisa? Or someone
using a somewhat ironic pseudonym? We'll never know - that is, unless the real Joe Lisa
comes out of hiding. Unlike talk radio, our lines are
always open - and confidentiality is, of course, assured.
According to sources, Don Alverzo may be also the GO operative formerly known as Jerry Levin, the notorious faux "nice guy" who took up with Operation Freakout target Paulette Cooper in order to spy on her for the CoS. Reports say that he is still in the cult, possibly living at Saint Hill, perhaps because the IRS has been looking for him since his bug-planting days in GO.
Current whereabouts unknown; there is a Bruce Ullman in San Antonio, Texas who is
listed as the contact person for people looking to network with disabled persons in
Central and South America; noteable only with regards to the activities of "our"
Ullman's former colleague Weigand in South America.
Updated Info! (June 7, 1998)
In yet another case of ex-GO co-cons teaming up in the civilian world, Bruce Ullman has
been located as the financial officer for none other than Intnet,
the ISP owned and operated by his co-conspirator George Pilat. Bruce is
listed as treasurer
of Intelligence Network Online in the Florida corporate database. (Editor's note -
Insurance investigators, private investigators - jeez, what is it with these spy games?
Apparently, you can take the double agent out of the GO, but the thrill of espionage lasts
forever.)
Ms. Moxon has spent the last few years keeping a low profile (at least, compared to hubby Kendrick). Carla was rumoured to be driving a bus for a Delphi School in Glendale, California in mid-96. (Ed's comment - A lawyer's wife, driving a school bus? Does this mean the Moxons are no longer together?)
Presumed to be living in LA with her husband, GO felon and PR man Henning, Heldt is
also a Patron of the IAS. (Ed's comment - Dohring must have been pulling in some
serious money if Henning and Mary were able to contribute such a sizeable chunk of cash to
the warchest.)
Updated Info! (As of March 7, 1998)
According to Henning-watchers, Mary has joined her husband at websiteless computer firm
The Software Works.
NEW INFO! (July 16, 1998)
In what is becoming a familiar move, Mary has also shaken the TSW dust off her feet, and
is rumoured to be working at Dohring, the LA-based company to which her husband Henning
has recently returned.
After his tumultuous career as a GO planner, Parkhouse resurfaced on the 1992 Declaration list. It's not clear why he was eventually declared, but he is apparently out of the CoS at the current time . Second-hand rumour had him running a taxi stand at Heathrow Airport in the 80s, but his current location is unknown.
Declared sometime in the late eighties, Gaiman did steps a-e, and went back onlines as public at Flag and St. Hill. When last spotted, he was busy selling vitamins in Russia, which gave him the opportunity to provide a convenient PR front for the CoS efforts in eastern Europe. He and his wife run a shop in East Grinstead, where, in addition to vitamins, lucky scientologists can stock up on Guk.
Currently living in Santa Rosa, California, Klopper is involved with the medical majrijuana lobby in developing a mission statement. His name also appears as a potential deposee in a FACTnet briefing relating to the validity of the copyright transfer, although it is not clear why he is considered party to information on this matter.
Running, of all things, an ISP in Florida - Intnet, Inc.,
Pilat is also associated with CIBER Corporation, a private investigation firm specializing
in "computer crimes" Pilat helps run CIBER's Private Eye mailing list.
His company, IntNet, also came out with a spamblocker, and has been active in the fight
against internet taxation. It also seems to support the EFF, which makes me wonder how
George feels about scientology's adventures winning friends and influencing people on the
net. Maybe if he reads this, he can tell us.
(Ed's comment - well, looks like all that Snow White experience came in handy for
*one* ex-GO guy.)
Mary Rezzonico
A staffer at the Legal Bureau of the GO during her Snow White days, Rezzonico now
works for Survival Insurance, a California-based company that also employs several TNX
subscribers. In her spare time, Rezzonico is chief contact for the Glendale chapter of Citizens for an Alternate Tax System, or CATS, the one-time
CoS-driven anti-tax group that was supposedly emancipated from the official church after
the IRS agreement was signed in 1993.
Despite its professed independence from the church, both the executive and membership of
CATS is heavily scientologist - so much so that it's become an ongoing project for the
Loose Ends researchers. Watch for a special all-CATS page - coming soon. (We now return
you to your regularly scheduled roundup.)
Martin Greenberg
Once the senior accountant for the CoS, Greenberg now works as a WISE-affiliated
CPA in Clearwater, Florida. The CoS claims that he plays no official role in any church
organizations, in its IRS 1023 application, stating that since the mid-80s, he has instead
worked in private practice, albeit with many scientologist clients, and is "a
parishoner of the Scientology religion."
Greenberg is both Registered Agent and an officer of Newlink Communications, a New
Hampshire-based WISE firm that once boasted on its employee roster Sam Licciardi, husband
of Denise Miscavige Licciardi. David's sister, Denise later turned up on the board of
directors of Digital Lightwave, currently under heavy assault from class action lawyers
and aggrieved former partners over alleged financial mismanagement and assorted other
charged of conduct unbecoming a public company.
Another Greenberg client of note is Business and Investment Management Services Inc,
headed up by wealthy British scientologist real estate magnate Marshall Goldblatt.
Greenberg is the Registered Agent for BIMS, which is run from Clearwater by Goldblatt's
business partner and co-parishoner Rachel Lockwood. (In yet another example for the It's A
Small World department, Goldblatt has also been in business with the hotshot short-seller
investment kings, the Feshback brothers.)
Missing In Action
Jimmy Mulligan (possibly living in South Carolina), Peggy Tyson, Lynn McNeil, Bruce
Raymond, Michael Taylor, Herman Brendel (possibly living in Missouri)
Dick Story, signatory on several GO orders, was head reg for PDU at Flag as of April 1995, also served as head of Way to Happiness Campaign.
Carl Heldt was director of various scientology corporations as of October, 1995.
Sheila Chaleff - Director of COSRECI (UK church) in 1990s, head of UK Operation in 1993-94.
Miles Mellor - OSA Invest UK
Peter and Patricia Stumbke - OSA Invest Int.
Cathy Sproule - Director of Special Affairs AOSH UK, RPFed in 1993
(This list is made possible by the tireless efforts of many arsians, both public and lurking, including Ray Randolph, Son of Xenu, Deomorto, Joel Hanes, Tilman Hausherr, Ron Newman, Exile49 and all the anonymous, semi-nonymous or just plain shy folks who shall remain nameless, but still very much thanked.)
New information always welcome! The GO Roundup would not be possible without the many tips, suggestions and sighting reports that we've received from sources both anonymous and otherwise. Spot a mistake? Help us update our files. Send email to tallulah@storm.ca, or post a note to alt.religion.scientology .GO 11 Roundup - Background
In December, 1997, I posted a request for information on the current status of the 34 scientologists who were implicated in Operation Snow White, the audacious -- and ultimately catastrophic -- attempt by the CoS to infiltrate the U.S. government in order to purge the official record of materials damning to scientology. I've done my best to summarize what has been learned so far.
Most of the information used was gathered from ex-scientologists and longtime critics who have kept tabs on the whereabouts of former associates, as well as lists of members and other info-nuggets that were gleaned from current CoS publications. And of course, the internet, which almost goes without saying.
Mr. Meisner was mistakenly left off the first installment of this document, which in no way negates the keen interest for details of his current incarnation.
As for Mr. Wolfe, AKA Silver, I can only hope that someday soon, a random search of the Web will bring him face to face with his past, in the form of a.r.s. I'm sure there are a lot of people that would be interested in hearing both his and Meisner's side of the story.
(Note: I have attempted to verify all information that was provided to prevent any unfortunate cases of mistaken identity. Any errors that persist are, of course, my own damn fault. Please send any and all corrections, modifications or additions to me at tallulah@storm.ca, or post them on a.r.s.)
