Electric Fan Switch Installation
Tutorial
Parts Needed:
Radio Shack Toggle Switch: P/N 275-634
About 4 feet of wire cut to 2 x 2ft. lengths
Shrink wrap for wire
Soldering iron, solder, paste flux
Scotch-lok tap connector
Ring terminal connector and wire crimper (wire stripper too)
Step 1: remove right side cowling panel. See your manual if you need instructions on that.
Step 2- Locate fan relay right under the fuse box. Cut off some of the plastic protective jacket to make room for your scotch-lok connector.
Here's a photo of the switch.
I soldered the wires to the switch. Note: I am no solder master
Heat shrink tubing hides the work!
Use the scotch-lok to connect one end to the green/Yellow wire
And crimp on a ring terminal to the other. Connect this to a ground. I used the upper radiator mount bolt. The bolts next to the fuse box do not provide a good enough ground and will NOT work!
I put the switch behind the taillight on the small fairing piece. The piece will be cheap to replace, and it's out of the way, yet I can reach it at a stop light. I used gun sight paint to paint a red spot to signify the 'on' direction. You should put the switch on BEFORE finalizing your wiring. This will let you cut everything to the exact length and avoid the rat's nest effect.
