About Smiles Unlimited Reproductions
Many of you that have come to visit are familiar with
my reproductions and how they are made, but for those of you that are not, a brief explanation. I begin by creating a sculpture
in stoneware clay (like potters use), which can take anywhere from a few hours to a several days depending on the complexity
of the piece. When the sculpture is totally dry it is fired and a latex mold is made. Once the mold is complete (approx. 3
to 4 weeks) the reproductions are cast in gypsum.
We (Dan and I) clean the seams from the mold and try to get the reproduction looking as
close to the original piece as we possibly can. Then we use two types of airbrush to paint them with latex and acrylic paint.
In addition to sets of suns, moons and stars, I also make several series of different types of animals, including, but not
limited to, zoo animals, farm animals, many breeds of dogs, and for collectors of fantasy creatures, dragons, unicorns and
