AFTER THE YEAR 1885:

To obtain an extract from an act of birth, marriage or burial
application must be made to the Office of the Superior Court. If
that Office is now known, the application should be addressed to
the most likely Office with a request that it be forwarded to the
proper place of necessary. The name of the Church (or the City or
Town Hall) must be known as well as the date (or at least the
year) of the event.
It should be noted that the registers prior to 1885 have been
withdrawn and are kept in the National Archives. The list of

EVENTS SINCE 1926:

Since January 1st, 1926, all births, marriages and deaths
occurring in Quebec are reported to the government for demographic
statistical purposes. The reports are microfilmed and information
retrieval is readily obtained when certain data are known. To
obtain information from these reports, the following must be
known: the date of the event (or at least the year), and
confirmatory material such as, the mother's name in the case of a
birth; the name of the spouse in the case of a marriage' the name
of the spouse (or father if the person was unmarried) of the
deceased in the case of a death. Searches are also made when the
exact year is unknown. However, the event must have taken place
with a state period of years within which the search will be
concentrated. Here is a list of the periods to be advised
according to the event:
FOR A BIRTH - 5 years (ex., from 1940 to 1945)
FOR A MARRIAGE - Period from 1926 to 1974; period from 1975 to present
FOR A DEATH- Period from 1926 to 1970; period from 1971 to the present.
Applications for information concerning these events must be sent
to the address which follows. When the information is traced, a
written attestation of the event is furnished.
