JOINT STATEMENT OF OUR MISSION

The Diocese of Meru, ELCT and the Greater Milwaukee Synod, ELCA have heartily agreed to have a partnership based on both spiritual and physical development under the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, based initially on the following guidelines;

  1. To fulfill the mission of our Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19,20 and John 17:20) by upholding each other in prayer, exchange of personnel and bilateral visits of partnership in an endeavour to improve our relationship and bilateral sharing of information.
  2. To celebrate ministries together
  3. To set our hand to the plow of addressing our problems together and develop opportunities to learn from each other and grow in our cultural and spiritual understanding of each other.

    DURING THE PAST 10 YEARS, INDIVIDUALS, INSTITUTIONS AND CONGREGATIONS IN THE GREATER MILWAUKEE SYNOD HAVE:
       • Purchased vehicles for pastors on Mt. Meru so they no longer need to walk to their parishes
       • Created a loan fund so pastors can send their children to school or meet other financial needs
       • Started the Meru Coffee project - “Justice Never Tasted So Good”
       • Funded a medical scholarship so that the diocese could train a new doctor for their hospital - Dr. Julius Bartho Mollel
       • Completed medical facilities
       • Helped build and sent funds for the Ailanga Junior Seminary
       • Funded school scholarships so that the youth of Meru can go to school
       • Funded the education of three Carthage College graduates and a current student
       • Funded well and water harvesting projects and emergency food needs
       • Initiated and funded the two year South to North Missionary Program - Pastor Elias Kitoi Nasari
       • Established 20 congregation to parish partnerships
       • Sent delegations to Tanzania to support the partnership of the Companion Synod Program and funded and hosted delegations from Meru
