Heroes, Villains, and Kingsizemaybe

Suffice it to say, you won't see the name Adam Marsland on this page again.

I'm happy to shout and holler for a discovery, now about a year old. It's a country-flavored (no, not Skynard, more like Crazy Horse) rock band called KingsizeMaybe. Because of them, I've broadened my influences to include Crazy Horse, and the Flying Burrito Brothers. These are two early 70's California Rock bands I'd never really paid attention to. Great songwriting for hicks, I guess.

Anyway, Gary, his wife Shelli, their drummer Adam, and Robbie Rist blend the two styles in such a way that you leave the show feeling happy, and a bit pumped up! I'm glad to say, there will be no two-stepping at a KingsizeMaybe gig. Alas, their forthcoming CD has been forthcoming for over a year now. No doubt, it will rock your proverbial socks off.

I also was able to catch the Rentals during a residency at Spaceland in Silverlake. I hadn't spoken to Matt Sharp for about 5+ years, and I was glad to see him and his troupe were not only putting out great new tunes (part of the Last Little Life CDEP), but also bumping their oldies but goodies to a packed house for three weekends in a row!
I also discovered another band, Goldenboy who featured a bunch of influences like The Trashcan Sinatras, and Aztec Camera, and perhaps Coldplay, if they played electric guitar with any testosterone (no, "Clocks" doesn't count). Golden boy has two CDs out already, but I've no idea how they're available. I bought 'em at the show!

Webers was the venue. A bar that probably dates back to like the 1930's. It's in Reseda, thus the title of my article.

That night, I got to watch the Detroit Tigers fail to come back against the Anaheim Angels. Great finish though....
