Variations on a Theme: Bucks Baroque to Beaded Baroque to Baroque Blazon

Baroque Bucks PointBeaded Baroque in purple and silver Beaded Baroque in blue and silver, with mayflower filling

The original Bucks Baroque design, worked in enameled copper wire with a butterfly filling in the "lip" section, was also shown on the previous page. The U.S. quarter helps indicate the scale of this pendant. Next comes a Beaded Baroque pendant in silverplated and enameled copper wire, incorporating honeycomb fillings and a bead by Eric Rader, followed by a similar pendant worked in gold-filled, gold- and silver-plated, and enameled copper wire, which has a mayflower-based filling that echoes the pattern in the lampworked bead by Dale Prior. All these pendants are 4" long (including the bail) and 2.5" wide.

Baroque Blazon--central bead

In the next photograph, a blue-and-silver color scheme is used in a Baroque Blazon pendant, which isolates and slightly enlarges the shield-shaped assembly of scrolls at the top of the Bucks Baroque design. The lampwork bead (here, a capsule tab by Gina DeStevens) gives the smaller pendant necessary weight. It can be placed centrally or used as a dangle below the lace, allowing the central space to be used for a complex filling. Baroque Blazon is a compact 3" long (including bail) and only 1.75" wide, making it suitable for those who prefer a less flamboyant or expensive piece of jewelry.

Baroque Blazon--the twins

A final photograph shows two Baroque Blazon pendants which differ only in the central bead and its setting, demonstrating how much the choice of bead can affect the overall appearance of the pendant. The pendant on the left has another Gina DeStevens bead; the one on the right has a borosilicate glass bead by Mary Ann Williams. Also shown are a pair of earrings (as yet not mounted on earwires) which echo on a larger scale the round motif at the base of the pendant, and a U.S. quarter to indicate scale.
