Grapes are picked from the "coastal regions."

On the label:
"Winemaker Chuck Ortman selected grapes for this wine from California's premium growing regions. This wine has fruit that speaks of black currant, plums and chocolate. French oak barrel aged for ten months, it features rich, toasty oak flavors and a long, satisfying finish."

That is an awfully windy description for a very ordinary wine. They should have looked for some more grapes. It did not "speak of plums and chocolate," at least not to me. Perhaps it sensed my fear and clammed up on me. It is smooth and not unpleaseant, but without complexity. Bland.

"Beverage & Food Dynamics" gave it a 90 rating. A 75 is how I would have rated it. I have guzzled enough wine to recognize a pretender.
