Here are answers to frequently asked questions...

(1) Where did you get engaged?

We got engaged at the Eiffel Tower in Paris at the end of a Tour de France trip.  Click here to see some of our trip photos.

(2) When are you getting married?

Sunday, July 2, 2006.

(3) Where will the wedding take place?

A bed & breakfast in Homer, Alaska.

The B&B’s wedding ceremony location

(4) Why Alaska?

Alaska is incredibly beautiful and offers many of the activities we both love to do – hike, cycle, paddle, etc.  We’ll stay there after the wedding for our honeymoon.  We’re planning to visit some of Alaska’s national parks, including Gates of the Artic (in the Brooks Range) and Wrangell-St. Elias.  We have arranged for a bush pilot to drop us off in Gates of the Artic for a multi-day backpacking trip and then we’ll head up to Wrangell-St. Elias to hike Dixie Pass, a trail Suzanne worked on during her first trip to Alaska in 1998 (click here for photos).  You can watch a video of the lodge we’re staying at after we finish our Dixie Pass hike – proof we’re actually going to get some R&R!

(5) Who’s invited?

We’re planning a small ceremony with immediate family (Suzanne’s parents, brother, and sister-in-law, and Craig’s mother and brother).  We’ll have a party for our local friends and family when we get back to North Carolina (see #6 below), as well as one in New York in September (see #7 below).

(6) Do you have details on the North Carolina party?

We have reserved Spruce Pine Lodge in Bahama (just north of Durham) for Saturday, August 12, 2006.  Spruce Pine Lodge is a 1940s vintage log building located in the Lake Michie Recreation Area.  The lodge has indoor and outdoor gathering areas, as well as hiking trails, a large lawn and play field, and a picnic shelter.  It will be great for a low-key, kid-friendly event.  We’ll have great food from Durham Catering Company and an awesome band.  We look forward to seeing you there!

(7) Do you have details on the New York party?

Sandi, Suzanne’s mother, has arranged for a post-wedding luncheon on Saturday, September 23, 2006, from 1-5pm at Spoto’s Italian restaurant in the Bronx.  Suzanne is very excited to introduce Craig to her extended family at this event!

(8) Where are you registered?

We have created a charity givelist at NetworkforGood.org – click here to access it.

(9) Whose house are you going to live in?

Ultimately, we’ll sell both our houses (Craig just sold his and Suzanne’s will be on the market sometime in 2007/8) and live in a third, TBD location.  Feel free to pitch your neighborhood.

(10) Are you going to have kids?

Can we defer this one until after the wedding?

(11) Is Suzanne changing her last name?

She’s finally made a decision!  It will be Suzanne Unger Young (no hyphen).  She’ll use the full thing at work, but go by Suzanne Young elsewhere.  It was a good second choice after Craig vetoed changing both last names to Younger.  J

(12) Since you’re such tree huggers, what type of green stuff do you have planned for your nuptials?

Our wedding will be outdoors and we’re planning to serve local, line-caught Alaskan seafood and organic veggies.  Given the appetites of the Ungers and Youngs, we should generate very little waste.  J  For our North Carolina party, we found a great online store that sells wheat-based biodegradable plates and cutlery.  Hopefully we can convince our guests to carpool out to Bahama (hint, hint).
