Hello!
This is a very exciting time for me, and a time to use technology to enhance my table practice by keeping in touch with each one of you. You have all been a part of my growth, both professionally and personally. So as this marks a new aspect to my practice, it enables me to express my appreciation to all of you and thank you for your business, your referrals, your loyalty and your friendship. I am not really sure what my newsletters are going to look like, or how they will evolve. I have a feeling, though, they will evolve and grow like my practice has, with the experiences I have gained from my clients and by continuing to learn and discover those things I am most passionate about. Healing has always been a passion of mine, since I was a little girl. Having experienced death at an early age when my sister died of leukemia, I had a desire to want to help broken hearts. And, I guess by this I mean, seeing the silence of the loss my parents, extended family and friends were experiencing. In reference to the silence, in those days, you did not talk about feelings, but sensitive to my sisters absence I felt their pain, as well as my own. It's no wonder years later I would choose to enter the health profession with the desire to work with terminally ill children, and a way to give back to the sick, my parents, and those who have been affected by illness.
Coming full circle, I have discovered another aspect to healing, and that has brought me to the holistic arena. Finding massage therapy by pure accident, I discovered a different way of taking care of yourself and a way to bring back a very natural phenomenal to life: The human touch
In my practice I have realized the many ways we can touch. The touch we usually refer to in massage therapy is physical. There are many people who still feel that this is a luxury or a way to pamper oneself. For those novices to massage, as many of you are, you know the benefits that receiving massage regularly can leave you with. The touch we often times overlook is the touch that stimulates the heart without physically touching it.
In Florida, at the University of Miami, Tiffani Fields Ph.D. has been at the forefront of research of the benefits of massage. In a study done of grandparents who volunteered their time giving infant massage it was found that “In serving others, we too are served ”. The findings were breathtaking: the volunteer grandparents had less anxiety, greater social connections, less feelings of depression, elevated moods, decrease in heart rates, improved self-esteem, better life styles, and fewer doctor visits. The effects of their giving were stronger than if they had received. Just as in this study, although I am the one giving, I have found that with each client my heart is deepened by the experience and my life continues to be transformed. So again, I thank you and feel deeply blessed to be on this path as I continue to grow as I serve you.
Post-It
In keeping with simplicity and taking advantage of technology (which I might add until recently I considered myself computer illiterate) I am updating my client files. If you have an e-mail address, please e-mail me at simplylinda7@earthlink.net with the following info: birth date, anniversary, and change of address and telephone numbers. If you don't have an e-mail account (and just so you know, until a year ago I had no clue what that was all about) call me at 973-632-3797. My plan is to do a newsletter every 3 months. In order to accomplish this in the most timely and inexpensive way, I would like to send it by e-mail.
For this first newsletter, most of you will be receiving it via postal also known as “snail mail.” It is my vision to keep in touch with you more frequently by keeping it simple, and utilizing technology. For those of you who like to keep life simple without technology, I honor you and will continue to keep in touch with you this way.
As much as I appreciate what technology can do for me, I also enjoy the time I spend away from it and enjoying nature. If you would like to be removed from my mailing list, please let me know (by phone or e-mail) and I will remove you from my list.
Happy Autumn
Although I have come to appreciate all the seasons, I think Autumn is my favorite. When I think of Autumn, I think of abundance and what I have harvested (although that would have meant something entirely different a year ago). From the planning phase in Winter (where I planted seeds of vision and what was important in my life), to the Spring of rebirth and hope, to the nurturing and fulfillment of Summer, I realize how much I have grown from all the experiences I have encountered. The challenges I have been met with have only enhanced my journey and added to the abundance of my life.
During this time of Thanksgiving, I wish you and your loved ones an abundant celebration of life.
Time for Change
Autumn is also a time for change and letting go. Just as the leaves on the branches let go and trust the process of rebirth. And so, I have decided it's time to change the name of my practice from “Helping Hands by Linda” to “The Art of Touch”.
Discovering which Service is for You
Since graduating from The Institute for Theraputic Massage in February of 2000, I have added other services to my tool bag and would like to share these other options with you. The enclosed brochure describes my new services.
As I have grown and taken new classes, many of you have been willing to let me experiment on you. I would like to take this time to thank each one of you for allowing me time to practice my new skills and techniques. Because of you, it has enhanced my practice. You have all been brave souls!!
Stepping into Winter Promotion
To add to the fun of winter I am holding my first promotion…. Yeah!! There will be a drawing during the months of November, December and January. Each month, one person will win a gift certificate for massage. The drawing will be based on the number of clients that schedule appointments each month, no matter what the service. For example: if 50 clients were to schedule appointments for the month of November, each one's name will be put into the drawing and one client's name would be drawn to receive a free gift certificate. Your name also goes into the drawing if you purchase a gift certificate for someone!!!
My next newsletter will be out in February and those winners will be posted then. Any questions, please feel free to contact me!
My Wish List
With Christmas fast approaching, I thought this would be good a time to put in my Christmas Wish List. For those of you who know my dilemma, I am in dire need of a foot basin. I keep waiting for the boy who plugged up the hole in the dike and saved the town, but he hasn't shown up yet!! And not that I'm being too fussy, but no Wal-Mart basins please… Hmmm, just in case save your receipts. I can see an abundance of foot basins coming my way!!
And now, because I DO BELIEVE, here is my real Christmas Wish:
May each one of you be filled with hope and determination to live in a World of Peace, and that your wish list is filled with goodies that warm your heart and touch the hearts of others. Merry Christmas and a Joyous New Year!!!
Coming in February:
“Laughter is the Best Medicine”
