Silver Saddle 4-H
Meeting minutes

Feb, 2006
Silver Saddle 4-H is required to work the concession stand at the DCLA Youth Fair on Thursday, March 23rd from noon until 5 p.m.  We need a volunteer to coordinate two children and two adults to work the stand for that five hour time period.  This will count as a community service project for your recordbooks and your scholarship applications.  If you coordinate the volunteers, you will receive leadership credit as well.  Contact Kim Wendt if you can coordinate the schedule.

Today is the registration deadline for the West Texas Reining Horse Association Youth Clinic and Show scheduled for March 4 and 5 at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center in Lubbock. If interested, please contact Jana Pruitt Bagley at 806-647-0727 or 806-647-8303.

It was announced that Courtney Burggren is working on a fashion show for the March 9th meeting and the club will hold its annual show clothes swap prior to, and following, that meeting. Bring your used show clothes and make some extra $$$!!!!

Please take a moment to the article on the front page of 3/21/2006 Denton Record-Chronicle regarding the horse industry in Denton County. As the article is continued on page 3A, city councilmembers go on to discuss the an equestrian center in the area. Here is a quote from that article!
"If we can prove it really is a draw, it will reinforce the need for an arena."
The entire first part of the article shows the need and the fact that there would be a draw! We have top trainers from all disciplines right here in the county. The breed shows alone would pay for the site! In addition, the youth have no where appropriate to show (horses and livestock). Why do you think our DCLA youth fair horse show was held in Wise County!
Lets get them worked up about this again and put this much needed facility on the agenda! It is just ridiculous that an area named "Horse Country USA" has no public equestrian facility!

When (notice I say "when" not "if") you write your letters to the editor of the DRC and to the City Council, you might mention that a partnership between the City of Denton, Denton County and the North Texas State Fair Association would be a win-win situation. Creating an equestrian center that can double as a "convention center" is another plus for your letters as a multipurpose facility (think gun shows, trade shows, mx races, car shows, dog shows, etc) will bring in even MORE revenue.
We need to speak LOUD and CLEAR RIGHT NOW so that the county knows this is a necessity, not a luxury!
The DCLA youth fair is at capacity at the current facility, the NTSF could grow exponentially with a larger facility (not to mention the restriction they face being located within the city limits), the youth of Denton Co. need an appropriate facility to show their horses and livestock, and the city and county will benefit from the revenues that a multipurpose equestrian facility will bring!

NOW GET OUR YOUR PEN AND PAPER AND GET AFTER IT! THIS IS AN OFFICIAL 4-H HORSE PROJECT ASSIGNMENT!
You can send a letter to the editor electronically at

I'm sure some letters from kiddos would pull at the heart strings!
