texas terri & the stiff ones
1997 has been a busy year for The Stiff Ones.  They've played over fifty shows throughout the golden state and spent weeks in Don Cilurso's Atwater studio recording a six song demo tape, which they've titled, "Eat Shit".  Additionally, the band has seen their songs included in three compilation albums: "Live at Al's Bar"( Al's Bar records), "Born to Lose," the movie soundtrack (Bomp!/Alive), and "Old Scars and Upstarts" (Disaster, Duane Peters' label).  This past November, The Rock City News awarded  Texas Terri and the Stiff Ones the title, Best Hollywood Band of 1997.  They've earned their reputation.

It all began late in 1994 when Texas Terri, formerly of The Killer Crows (click here for the Texas Terri Interview), teamed up with guitarist Don Cilurso to form Texas Terri's Baby Bird.  Cilurso, a New Orleans native, had been a part of the L.A. music scene for years, and had most recently played with Deep Six, a
gothic-industrial hybrid.  His musical influences were similar to Texas Terri's and included bands like The Stooges, Thunder, Ron Ashton, Gun Club, and Jeffrey Lee Pierce.

Cilurso and Texas Terri hit it off immediately and with the combination of Cilurso's skillful playing and Texas Terri's high energy vocals, Baby Bird was born.  The band, however,  went through a series of drummers and base players,

the name changed to The Stiff Ones, and Cilurso took leave to audition for Marilyn Manson in 1996 (click here to read about the audition), yet the core element of the band survived.  Texas Terri explains "it's that Mick Jagger-Keith Richards thing".  Eventually the two found talented, likable, and reliable musicians to complete the band: Archie Frugone on base and Brian "Stiffo" Walsh on drums.

Frugone hails from Chile where he successfully released six CDs.  His popularity at home sparked him to try his luck in L.A. That was about two years ago and he's spent a year of that time playing bass for The Stiff Ones.

Brian Walsh has also played with the band for the past year, but unlike Frugone, Walsh has been a dynamic presence in the local music scene for years, playing with inumerable popular bands.  Before The Stiff Ones he played with Amanda Jones (now on Bomp!).
