Rosenlaui's Impossibly Improbable Pages

The title of these pages comes from a quote by my favorite detective, Sherlock Holmes: "...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth..." It is from the novel "The Sign of Four."

I also enjoy the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes novels by Laurie R. King, a wonderful series that takes place after Sherlock Holmes retires.

The page design I've chosen is for another hobby of mine: music. I enjoy many types of music, from classical to classic rock and roll, but my favorite music is by the Late Romantic composer/conductor/pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff. His music touches my heart and soul in a way that no other composer's music has done. It is lyrical, romantic, emotional, and speaks from the heart.

Becoming interested in Rachmaninoff's music led me to other composers of music for piano. Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Saint-Saens, and Schumann are among my favorites, and I especially like the pianists Vladimir Ashkenazy, Josef Hoffmann, Arthur Rubinstein, and, of course, Rachmaninoff himself, who I consider to be the greatest pianist of all-time.

Being an admirer of Sherlock Holmes (who plays the violin as a diversion from his consulting-detective practice), I am naturally fond of violin music. My favorite violinists are Jascha Heifetz and Fritz Kreisler.

I also collect movies, especially those of my favorite actor, Humphrey Bogart. I enjoy classic films (from the 1930's to the 1950's), film noir, Alfred Hitchcock, and British films.

I love to listen to "old-time radio" programs, especially those with my favorite film actors, and adaptations of my favorite films.

I'm a voracious reader. I enjoy biographies, history, mysteries, true crime and so many other types of books. I'll read whatever interests me, and I have a house full of books to prove it!

I'm a stay-at-home lady. I enjoy nature, photography, and writing (poetry, fiction, and non-fiction).

I am a member of a few Sherlock Holmes scion societies, and I belong to The Hounds of the Internet (where I am known as "Rosenlaui," the name taken from a glacier in Switzerland, shown in the above painting: "Glacier of Rosenlaui," painted in 1856 by John Brett [1831-1902]) and RUSS-L (the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes) discussion lists.

This website is just a bit of "this and that"--things and people that interest me, and causes that are important to me. Some day, I hope to expand my knowledge and do some all-inclusive sites on Sherlock Holmes, Humphrey Bogart, and some of "my favorite things."

There are links at the bottom of each page to sites about "my favorite things." These sites belong to other people and organizations, and I've visited them in my cyber-travels.

This site is always under construction, so please forgive me for non-functioning links and lack of text on some pages.
