BIOGRAPHY

Sherri Allen is a San Diego-based actor, director, and teacher.  She has worked with numerous local and regional theatre companies including La Jolla Playhouse, Old Globe, PCPA Theaterfest, Asolo Theatre, San Diego Repertory, Santa Rosa Summer Repertory, North Coast Repertory, Moonlight Stages, Poor Players, Lamb's Players, Vaudeville Express Melodrama, Traveling Lantern, Casey / Woody Entertainment, and  Legoland California.  Sherri has been published in The Actor’s Other Career Book: Interviews with Acting Pros, and An Invitation to Poetry: A New Favorite Poem Project Anthology.

 

TRAINING

Ms. Allen studied Shakespeare and British Theatre in London with Gordon Scammel of the Essex Repertory Company and Lynne McVernon of The Young Vic Theatre.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama (with distinction in Acting) from San Diego State University where she was the recipient of the Laurel and Hardy Scholarship Award for achievement in acting.  She interned as an actor at PCPA Theaterfest (Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts), and went on to do graduate work on a full scholarship at Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training where she studied with legendary director and acting teacher José Quintero.  She also holds a teaching credential in English and drama from California State University at San Marcos. 

 

TEACHING/DIRECTING

When she isn't performing, Ms. Allen enjoys working with those who share her love for the arts and has been a Teaching Artist with Playwrights Project, Carlsbad Cultural Arts Center, San Diego Lyric Opera, and the Theatre School at North Coast Rep.  She  is currently a Teaching Artist with J*Company Youth Theatre, San Diego Junior Theatre, and La Jolla Playhouse, and has directed student showcases for all of these arts organizations. She is a member of the associate faculty at MiraCosta College where she teaches Fine Arts courses in the history of theatre, dance, art, and music; as well as classes in improvisation and  the golden age of radio.  

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

Piano, Dancing (ballet, tap, jazz, salsa, lindy-hop); Dialects (American Southern, Cockney, Standard British, Irish, and Brooklyn).
