The Shepaug Dam Bald Eagle Observation Area in Southbury, Connecticut is open from
the last weekend of December through mid-March on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Reservations are required and may be
made by calling (800) 368-8954 from December 7th through
March 12th, Tuesday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

136,700 people have visited the observation area since it was opened to the public
in 1986. The observation area was opened to the public during the 2012 winter eagle observation season a total
of 32 days. We had 1 weather related closing day. 3,192 visitors came to the Shepaug Dam during
the 2012 bald eagle observation season (1,950 for the first time). We averaged 7.2 eagles on each day of our 2012
observation season. Our high eagle count for one day for 2011 was 12 eagles and our low count for one day was 0 eagles.
Our volunteers contributed 266 volunteer days at the observation area.
