In 2002, the cap'n married Barbara Pesicka. They had known each other since their teenage days back in 1971. They traveled the world together until Barbara had a disabling stroke in 2010 then leased a waterfront cottage overlooking the bay of Green Bay in the historical community of Oak Orchard, Wisconsin. Barbara passed away on Thanksgiving Day 2012.

In July 2013, the cap'n purchased a house on the Oconto River in Oconto, Wisconsin and started rebuilding his life by starting a tour boat business. On July 19th, 2014, he married Nancy Benchley of Menominee, Michigan. Nancy's husband had passed away 2 days before his wife Barbara. Together they are rebuilding their lives while living in their Oconto riverfront home.
