AN ARTIST'S CREATION

Of little things, I know a lot
of lots of things, a little
my mind is racing, a new creation
is somewhere in the middle.

A rafia basket, woven by hand
a painting of a thunderous sky
A victorian salt clay piece of art
that never seems to dry!

A collection of prints, which reveal my soul
hanging on strangers walls
A myriad of handmade Chrismas gifts
adorning family walls.

Boxes and frames made with glitter and glue
paper and eggshells and some kind of goo.
Photos and drawings, computer enhanced,
for T-shirts or brochures or pockets of pants.

Greeting cards, business cards, logos and signs
calendars, newspapers, graphic designs
An artist is not what I thought I would be
an artist is just what I made out of me!

SHADES OF WHITE
by Shirley Whiting Allard

With brush in hand and canvas primed
The masterpiece awaits me
I narrow my sights and broaden my mind
Allowing the canvas to paint me.

The starkness of newly primed linen
Should inspire a brush stroke or line
Dabbling with color, perspective and weight
Its blankness seeps into my mind

What hues would it choose to portray me
What depths of the shadows and light
The canvas has captured me clearly
A blank canvas in soft shades of white.

Family Ties

There are no words to emphasize
What we love and treasure dearly
The values of our family ties
Defy explaining clearly.

The simplest explanation, dulls
The power of their being, while
A complicated reasoning, tends
To weaken their true meaning.

In truth, there is no way to tell, or
To make one realize, unless
Their lives are blessed as well
With treasured family ties.
