A new project now threatens Golden Gate Park:

 A 2 Acre Water Treatment Factory near the Murphy Windmill  --

The Westside Water Treatment Plant will:

        Take up two acres of parkland now, and an unknown amount if expansion is needed in the future;

        Construct a 40,000 square foot plant with concrete walls 10 to 30 feet high.  It will include a chemical storage building;

        Be located right next to the historic Murphy Windmill and Millwright’s cottage, park treasures that the City has spent years and $ millions renovating;

        Remove 123 additional trees that form the western windbreak of the Park; another 76 trees will be threatened by the construction process. Combined with the soccer fields, this means that over 250 trees are threatened in one small area.

When combined with the artificial turf soccer fields, these two projects will create a wide swath of urban development across the western end of the park, between Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach.  Our children and future generations deserve to have Golden Gate Park protected for their enjoyment.

SF Ocean Edge is working with the Golden Gate Park Preservation Alliance website to move this factory project out of Golden Gate Park.   See their website for photos and more information:
