Cool Ties for Soldiers 
Supplies:
 36" wide muslin cut in 5" lengths
1 rounded (not heaped) tsp. crystals
 
Instructions:
Sew the 2 36" edges together to form a long tube. 
Turn the tube right side out.
Measure 12" from one end and sew across the tube.
Add 1 (yes! ONLY 1) teaspoon of crystals to longer section of the tube.
Measure 12 inches from the second end of the tube and sew across.
You are all done and ready to make some more!
 
These ties are sent to our soldiers who are serving in areas where heat is a problem.  The soldiers tea dye them to the appropriate shade and use them all summer.  They really love them.  If you have someone who is serving in our military who could use one or would like to help make them for others, please contact us for the supplies. 

Wheelchair Bags for Disabled Vets
Supplies:
18" fabric 45" wide
2 straps 7" long
thread
 
Instructions:
Cut fabric into 2 18" x 18" squares and 1 18" x 9" rectangle.
Hem one 18" edge of the rectangle.
Sandwich the 2 squares (right sides together) with the rectangle piece meeting on the18" unhemmed edge.
Sew the edge with the 18" side of the rectangle.  (This will be the bottom of the bag).
Open the sandwich and sew a vertical line dividing the pocket into a 6" section and a 12" section.
Sew the sides.
Hem the open edge of the bag.
Fold the handles into a 3.5" U and sew the cut edge on at the seams so that they will form loops to hang over the handles of the wheel chair.
Turn the bag right side out and start on another one.
 
These bags are donated to the Veteran's Administration Hospital and Nursing Home.  The Vets do truely appreciate them.
