My name
is Mike Buhay and I live in the Ocala, Fl. area. My desire
is to share with you how God miraculously changed and turned my life around.
Born in 1963, I was raised Lutheran by my parents. I was baptized as an infant, confirmed by about 14 and pretty much went
to church weekly. I grew up much like everybody else, went to school, hung out, was heavily involved in team sports when I
was younger, but that faded when I became interested in girls and drinking. My later teen years and on into my twenties I
became consumed with these two things. I was going out to the bars at least 5 nights a week and the main focus was on picking
up women. During this time I didn’t really feel like I was doing anything wrong, I was simply doing what everyone else
my age was doing.
After I met and married my wife Louise my focus changed somewhat. We became consumed with obtaining the best this life
had to offer and I was willing to lie, cheat, and steal to obtain it. I got into my own business and at first things took
off. We moved into a monstrous 5 bedroom house backed up to a beautiful golf course. It had a finished basement with a wet
bar, inground pool and the works. We wouldn’t dare drive in anything but brand new cars and we became fascinated with
cruise ships, making sure to go on at least 2 cruises a year. We seemingly were enjoying ourselves and living the good life
but our lives were secretly in shambles. We were each so self-consumed that it got to the point where we hated each other.
We were both miserable and Roy, our only child, had become nothing more than a nuisance to the both of us. Eventually my business
began to falter, debt began to accumulate rapidly, and the bill collectors started calling. This quadrupled the stress and
Louise, who couldn’t stand to be around me any longer, began to spend time with the Christian neighbors across the street.
Then, at one point, she came home and announced that she had met Jesus. For the first time in her life she KNEW that God was real and she knew that she had met Him. At first, I was very skeptical but Louise clearly
had completely changed. Where there was once hate, there was now an incredible love. Her bitterness towards me turned into
a great compassion for me. Her sullen, somber, sadistic demeanor became one of intense joy and peace. My wife had been transformed
before my very eyes. The Bible, in 2Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, (has become a Christian)
HE IS A NEW CREATURE;
OLD THINGS HAVE PASSED AWAY; behold, ALL THINGS HAVE BECOME NEW.” We didn’t know then that the Bible says this but this is exactly what had happened to Louise. One
other very noticeable change in Louise which occurred was her new views on what was good and what was evil. She would get
very upset (to the point of tears) about things which we had always done; watching tv, drinking, swearing, certain books we
had in the home, etc.. Something inside her soul had completely changed her opinions about these types of things. She had
not been told that these things were evil in God’s sight, neither had she yet begun to read the Bible extensively, but
something inside her had made these new distinctions very clear to her.
Soon, the new found joy seen day after day in Louise’s face started to get to me. I was still miserable and I couldn’t
understand how Louise’s life had completely changed overnight. I decided to look into this Jesus and Christianity to
see what it was all about. I began reading the Bible but it was too overwhelming and things just didn’t make much sense.
About this time, Louise purchased me a book called, “Reasons for Believing.” After reading through this book I
became sure, for the first time in my life, that there actually was a God who had created everything, including me, and fear
gripped me as I realized that I had to find out who this God was and what He wanted from me.
I began reading the Bible whenever I had a spare moment. I began listening to Christian preachers on the radio while driving
around 12 hours a day on my job. This went on for about 6 months. Finally, one day, God opened my eyes. I don’t know
for sure why He did, but the Bible says in Hebrews 11:6 that “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who
comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.“ I had come to believe
that He most certainly was and I had diligently tried, as best I knew how, to seek Him, and after a time He did reward me.
It happened in my car, of all places. I was driving in my car and was listening to a preacher named Greg Laurie on the
radio. As he was inviting people to give their lives over to the Lord, God showed me my predicament. In a moment He showed
me how wicked my heart REALLY
was. I had always felt that I was a pretty good person
but for the first time I became aware that I had spent my entire life in rebellion to, and had been grossly sinning against
Almighty God who had created me. The drinking, the lying, the cheating, the swearing, the fornication, the lusting after women
were all bad enough but even the supposed good things that I had done were shown to be corrupt in God’s sight because
I had done those things to either be acknowledged, rewarded, or praised and had never done them to bring glory to my Creator,
the One who had given me every ability I ever possessed. At that same moment God showed me, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that
I was going to hell. I have never known a clearer fact in my life than that one at that very moment. I was doomed. Jesus Christ
was the only answer, the only one that could possibly do anything for me. I cried out (hysterically, I might add) for the
Lord Jesus to save my wicked soul and I made an instant decision to follow God and His ways and put my life of sin to the
wayside. I was saved instantly! I literally became a new person. Everything changed for me that day. God changed my perspective
on everything instantly. God caused the lying, cheating, and swearing to stop. The illegal cable tv box was removed from my
home and shortly thereafter the whole tv went as God showed me that it was only full of utter wickedness and contempt for
Him. My drinking and my desire for it completely ceased. The focus on money and material things also changed. These things
now disgusted me. We sold our new cars, sold our home, and decided to move to Florida (we had been living in Long Island,
NY) to simplify our lives to be able to serve our Lord. But, best of all, God destroyed my selfish heart and turned my heart
to my family. I had a new love for them that was incredible and unexplainable. And He gave me joy and a song, God flooded
my soul with joy, a joy that I had never, ever, experienced before and every morning I would wake up with a song of praise
in my heart for Him. This all happened 11 years ago, at age 35, and Louise and I have never went back to, or even once desired
to go back to, our old way of living. Jesus Christ has changed us from the inside out. We love Him above all else. Our lives
are His. He is real and He is alive!. There is a judgment coming and He is the only answer for all men. Reader, I beg you,
seek the Lord while He may be found. He will change your life. He will transform you and your family for the better, here,
and then on into eternity. If you have never had a time when God completely turned your life around 180 degrees, then you’ve
never truly met Him. “Therefore if any man be in
Christ, HE IS A NEW CREATURE; OLD THINGS HAVE PASSED AWAY; behold, ALL THINGS HAVE BECOME NEW.” Seek Him and His ways and He will reward you.
