Welcome to the Serpine Camp. I am rebuilding it after years of frustrating crashes and site drops. Hopefully you will find it amusing or useful in some small way.
The SerpineFor the uninitiated, the Serpine are a hunter race of large snakes with tentacles for arms, most widely known from the computer game LoD (Land of Devastation) which I did many graphics for.
Me (Dave)My name is Dave. Its a rather mundane name, but I've also managed to end up using Doc (at a prior job), Akabarl (on Sims sites), Inkrion, Nort (in LoD), Serpine (on muds), and countless names in various RPGs and MMOs. No fragmented sense of identity here. Nope. Not at all. Ignore the man behind the curtain.
I work in an office as a programmer, modifying accounting software. When I was in High School I always used to say that my worst nightmare was that I'd end up writing database software. But low and behold, the nightmare became true, and really it isn't so bad. It lets me support my family and fund my hobbies.
My family is the primary thing I think about. It includes my wife (good luck trying to sort out which her primary website is), my grandfather, and my half-sister (both of whom live with us). The tale of my immediate families history is of movie-of-the-week complexity. Maybe I'll write about it some day...
I listen to music, any music. I have over 17 gigs of music on my iPod: NIN, swing classics, Manson, Billy Joel, KMFDM, the Andrews Sisters, Tool, and even the soundtrack to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory ("We are the music makers. We are the ones that dream the dreams.").
I also play computer games (MMOs mostly) and research esoteric subjects that have caught my fancy online. Occasionally I paint miniatures or engage in full-contact origami. Well, not that that last one (be interesting to see though). When I can tear myself from these pursuits I check out movies (I may be one of the only five people in the world who admit to liking both the "Postman" and "Waterworld", but mostly my tastes follow the normal pattern).
My main hobby though, is playing RPGs (i.e. "Dungeons and Dragons"). Back when I was still in elementary school, I witnessed what I would later understand to be a totally messed up session of D&D. It caught my imagination: That's how it all began. Now I have more gaming material then anything short of a dedicated RPG store. AD&D (of course), Shadowrun, Vampire, Twilight 2000, Gamma World, Star Frontiers, XXVc, Werewolf, Star Wars, Hol, Rus, Paranoia, Top Secret, and dozens more. I've run and played most of them at some time or another. Gaming groups have been the source of some of my closest friends and fondest memories.
