Rokushu Yudanshakai Senior Promotional Tournament
Rules and Requirements
The 28th
Annual Chaves Memorial Tournament will also serve as the Rokushu Yudanshakai
Senior Promotional Tournament. A
promotional tournament is a tournament held specifically to qualify candidates
for promotion, providing a venue for all judoka eligible for promotion to
compete and submit to testing and evaluation by the Rokushu Yudanshakai Board
of Examiners.
Judoka seeking
promotion are required to:
1) Be a member of the USJF and Rokushu Yudanshakai. (Rokushu has no promotional authority over
non-members)
2) Register for promotion by submitting a Promotion Eligibility
Form signed by the judoka’s head sensei.
Eligibility forms must be submitted with the Chaves pre-registration
forms. (No walk-ups will be considered
for promotion.)
3) Meet the Yudanshakai requirements for promotion.
(Requirements are listed in the study guides at http://www.usjf.com/forms/. Some of these requirements are waived for
batsugun promotions.)
There are two types
of promotion awarded at a promotional tournament: Normal and Batsugun.
Normal promotions are granted to competitors who have met most of
requirements for promotion to the next rank, including character, age, testing
and time-in-grade but;
1) may need to demonstrate kata; or
2) may need additional competition points
Batsugun promotions are based solely on competition performance on tournament
day. A batsugun (exceptional
achievement) promotion may be granted immediately by the Board of Examiners if
the judoka:
1) Has met the 1) membership and 2) registration requirements
listed above and;
2) Places first or second in the senior novice or advanced
division and:
a. Has at least 2 wins by ippon or wazari over opponents of
equal or higher rank or:
b. Has at least 3 wins by ippon over opponents of equal or
lower rank (maximum 2 ranks lower).
In the event of a
batsugun promotion, all time-in-grade, competition point, kata, and testing
requirements are waived.
Promotions may be from any rank to any higher rank, up to and including
shodan.
The Board of
Examiners of the Rokushu Yudanshakai intends to make this Promotional
Tournament an annual event. In the
future, we expect to include the junior shonen divisions.
Please remember that fulfillment of promotion requirements does
not guarantee promotion. Promotion is a
decision that can only be made by your sensei and the Rokushu Board of Examiners.
