Portuguese Millenium Elder Groups - Catholic Social Services offers two dynamic groups for Portuguese-speaking elders in Fall River and New Bedford. Each group is designed to give elders a place to enjoy the company of other Portuguese elders, engage in recreational and social activities, hear about local resources and opportunities, share a meal, and participate in excursions and trips.

Museum of Madeiran Heritage - 27 Hope Street, New Bedford, MA 02745, 508-994-2573 - This museum preserves art and artifacts of the Portuguese Island of Madeira, with exhibits that include photographs, carvings, colourful dance costumes, a three dimensional model of the island, and fine handmade embroidery, lace, and linens; a beautiful garden and patio is also on site for some pleasant relaxation.

Events

St. John's Feast - at St. John the Baptist Church. Usually held during 3rd weekend in the month of June. An Annual church festival at the oldest Portuguese Roman Catholic Parish in America. Featuring game booths, money raffles, prizes, music and tasty ethnic foods. Procession on Sunday

Dia de Portugal: Day of Portugal Festival - Usually held during 2nd Weekend in the month of June, or the weekend closest to June 10th.

Annual Feast of the Blessed Sacrament - The oldest and largest Portuguese Feast in North America. Held on the weekend which ends with the 1st Sunday in August. August 4-7, 2005

Feast of Senhor da Pedra - Usually held during 3rd weekend in the month of August.

Feast of Our Lady of Angels - Usually held during last weekend in the month of August.
