A Formal Invitation:
In May of 2009, the fifth annual National Rendezvous and Living History Foundation’s Corps of Discovery teaching event will take place to help educate attendees on the ways of living and surviving in the American colonial era, between 1640 and 1840.
The staff of Corps of Discovery would like to extend an invitation to your group, school or home school.
Why Corps of Discovery?
The event is a learning exploration - much like Lewis and Clark when their expedition left for the great unknown from the banks of the Ohio River in 1804. What experiences can be explored? In the past we offered many seminars such as wing-bone turkey calls, cooking on an open fire with Dutch ovens, schrimshaw, bow/arrow demonstration, Tomahawk and knife throwing and blacksmithing. Raccoon Creek State Park also offered tours of its Delaware village constructed through the parks PATHWAYS program.
We’re always seeking interested parties to attend and especially in expanding the number of school and home school visits. Please let us know if your group would be interested by calling 724 947-4773, or dropping an e-mail to segundo98@earthlink.net.
Corps of Discovery will be held on the Nichols Field area of Raccoon Creek State Park off route 168 starting Thursday, May 14 through Sunday, May 17, 2009. Free to the general public, visiting hours will be 10:00am-4:30pm Thursday through Saturday.
Beginning in 2009, the event will be closed to the public on Sunday.
