ARTIST STATEMENT
I
take advantage of today’s technological advances and at the same time keep the human emotions alive.
To use technique and not to be used by technique.
To express something from within is the foremost goal of an artist, much more valuable than merely showing off technique. In other words, the meaning and the visual impression should be considered first, with technique providing the foundation to deliver the artistic message. Today's technical advances, combined with the human mind and hand, open up endless possibilities to push the envelope in artistic expression.
The computer is a tool that has become pervasive in our modern lives. Presently I am experimenting to bring the image of my original paintings on canvas into the computer.
I have found that combining images from my paintings on canvas with other digital images provides me the opportunity to express myself in new ways--to combine modern technology with fundamental artistic technique to create a new fusion which allows me to evoke the impressions of the world around me.
It's not that painting is obsolete or dead, it's that painting, like everything else, is changing and evolving.
As technology evolves, so does an artist's tools for self-expression. What's vital is that the artist doesn't get lost in the technique--that the artist continues to create art that retains its humanity and integrity.
