Code of Conduct
YPO has had
many fine seasons and looks forward to continuing this tradition of excellence. Excellence can only result from the full and continuing support of everyone involved. As a new or continuing musician, your contribution can have a profound
impact. Clearly you need to know the music, so be prepared
to put in the time and effort at home to learn it. Rehearsals
are an opportunity to work on the orchestra’s combined sound, and your fellow musicians will be depending upon you to
know your part and to be there. An absence not only slows your development as
a musician; it slows the development of the whole orchestra.
Rehearsal Etiquette: Rehearsals
are conducted in a professional manner. Musicians are expected to arrive fifteen minutes early to set up, tune, and warm up. Each
member must bring his or her instrument, the YPO folder, music and a pencil.
Bringing your own music folder is extremely important, even if you are
sharing a stand. Please have your copy of the music handy at all
times, and mark everything in it that goes into the part on your stand. A
YPO folder of music will be provided for your use and must be returned at the conclusion of the season. There may be a financial penalty should it be necessary to replace either
the folder or music.
It is vital that every member of the orchestra is paying attention, even
if your section is not rehearsing. Part of the task of playing in an Orchestra is
learning how other parts fit in with yours. Please turn off beeping things: phones, watches,
virtual pets, etc. Gum chewing, talking and disruptive behavior during rehearsal will not be permitted and may constitute cause for dismissal
without a refund for remaining rehearsals. All YPO members
should always show respect and consideration for
the conductor, coaches, parents, staff and all other members of the orchestra.
