The Youth Philharmonic Orchestra is dedicated to providing young musicans of all ethnic, cultural,
and economic backgrounds musical, social, and intellectual growth through inspired instruction, dynamic ensemble rehearsals,
and exceptional performances that support and enhance school music programs.
ENSEMBLE MEMBERSHIP:
Young
musicians between the ages of 5-25 are eligible for ensemble membership. YPO supports music in the schools and students
should participate in their school instrumental music program if available. Private lessons are encouraged; however
they are not required.
FEES:
Fees are $400 per year for two semesters for all ensemble levels.
Scholarship and
family discount information is available upon request.
AUDITIONS:
Admission to the high school Philharmonic Orchestra
is by audition. The remaining ensembles do not require auditions. Eligibility in these ensembles is determined by recommendations
from either the school music instructor or the private teacher. Contact the manager to schedule an audition.
For the Philharmonic level only: Students should prepare a 2-3
minute solo or orchestral piece and a scale of the student's choice. Sight reading may be a required part of the audition
but not necessarily required.
REHEARSALS and CONCERTS:
The yearly program includes two semesters.
Performance opportunities provide a wide range of meaningful experiences throughout the year.
SUMMER WORKSHOP:
A summer workshop is held each year.
The Poway Unified School District Adult School is offering
a two week middle school orchestra class which will be held from June 16-26 at Bernardo Heights Middle School located at 12990
Paseo Lucido in Rancho Bernardo. The class will meet from Monday-Thursday for two weeks from 9am-12noon. Students
