THE INTERMEDIATE SYMPHONY
The Intermediate Symphony is a full symphonic orchestra for advanced elementary, middle and junior high school strings,
winds, brass and percussion students. Regularly scheduled instrumental sectionals ensure the students success in this full
symphonic setting. This YPO program includes weekly rehearsals during the year and performance opportunities.
Admission is determinded by recommendation from either the student's private music instructor or the school music instructor.
NO AUDITION is required and members must participate in their school instrumental music program if one is available.
Seating placement within the Intermediate Symphony is determined by the conductors at rehearsals. This allows the conductors
the opportunity to place students in the ensemble according to ability and balance of sound. Students unable to attend
the first scheduled rehearsal will be placed in the ensemble accordingly. Winds and brass: please note that transposition
will not be required at this level.
The Intermediate Symphony performs in a Festival Concert each year at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.
The guest adjudicator and clinician is Jung-Ho Pak, Music Director of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, and New Haven Symphony
Orchestra.
What is a Festival Concert? It is a performance showcase of school and youth orchestras in the area. After
each performance is given the adjudicator will clinic the group before a live audience, allowing all to experience the wonderful
learning opportunity for our students. Families and students are invited to attend this free concert. Performances
will be taped and aired on ITV Educational Television later in the year.
