SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR INFANTRY

Guidelines to facilitate the safety of the Infantry Soldier afield for the Louisiana Battalion

1. The firearm must be in proper functional order.

  1. Ramrod is free to be pulled from its secured location.
  2. Barrel is free of obstruction.
  3. Breach plug is not fouled.
  4. Hammer is fully released upon depressing the trigger.
  5. Hammer screw is secure.
  6. Nipple is free of obstruction and is firmly seated.
  7. Overall appearance of the weapon is clean.
2. The Bayonet must be firmly secured in its scabbard.
  1. Bayonet scabbard must have a metallic tip attached.
3. A Knife must be firmly secured in its sheath.

4. Percussion Caps must be carried in a sturdy leather cap pouch or sealed tin box.

5. Cartridges

  1. Should be rolled in soft paper and contain no foreign substances.
  2. Should contain no more than 75 grains of FF or FF Black Powder.
  3. Should be carried, individually, in a cartridge box containing tin inserts.
  4. Should be carried, packaged, in a paper wrapping of sturdy construction.
6. Footwear must be of sturdy construction with soles firmly attached to the upper.

7. Canteens must be habitually be kept full of fresh water.
