About animosity and interdependence, Tenuous Relationship is an allegory utilizing Old West archetypes to illustrate cultural struggles. While each depends upon the other, they are reluctant to abandon their weapons.
Because the piece is allegorical in nature, the artist has abandoned his usual literal style of rendering in favor of a looser, rougher finish; the imprint of the artists tools and fingers, like the brush strokes in an impressionist painting, become part of the story. Details of costume and hardware have been minimized in favor of bolder composition and sweeping gesture.
Tenuous Relationship is intended to be a Monumental Bronze (each figure over life size), as well as a 1/3 scale and 1/6 scale versions. The sculpture hangs directly on the wall without the need for a base. Shown, here, is the 1/6 scale Artist's Proof
