Pool
1997
48" x 180" x 108"
456 gallons of red gelatin, children's toys, chrome plated steel,
chrome-plated wheelbarrow
This
piece is about that time in your childhood when imagination was
king, play was what you did for an occupation, and you could fly.
Its about that sticky-sweet time when you could find a piece
of plastic that looked a little like something and immerse yourself
in a fantasy world for hours at a time. Its not an homage
to great toys, nor the activity of play. Its a tribute to
the time before it ever occurred to you to grow up,
to the innocence of the kids we were, the kids we grew up with,
and the kids we are now.
