Our Favorite Bands

These are just a few bands that have become favorites of my friends and I. These are bands that we've seen or heard of and grown to love. Down towards the bottom of the page is a growing list of bands with web sites. Sit back, enjoy and if you hear of any other cool swing bands let me know so I can check 'em out too! Thanks!

"When you hit the dance floor you gotta be jumpin' Jack...Jump on in and jump wit' your baby!!!"

Ok, I just have to take a moment here to say a word about Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, officially my favorite band by far (and that's saying a lot considering the fact that my taste in everything changes with the wind!) Now a part of me is sad that they're hitting it so big, because for some reason you have to cringe when you hear your once favorite "little band" being played on the local top 40 station (gag!!) and now everybody and they're brother is singing the "new" song "You and Me and the Bottle makes Three"....but enough whining, seriously, they deserve the success they've earned! (even though I can't afford to go to their #%*@ show because the venue (who shall remainnameless...H.O.B.) jacked up their prices....but again, I'll stop whining) No matter what, they are still the best swing band I've known, and not just because they can blow the roof off anyplace, it's because they're the nicest bunch of guys you could ever meet! As I mentioned earlier, I can officially die happy now because I got the chance to meet all of them after a show in november of 1997. It was a full house at fUCLA's Wadsworth th eater and a *ton* of their fans stuck around to try and say hi to them after the show. Not only did the band come out to talk to the fans during the intermission, but after the show they stuck around for more than an hour signing autographs and just taking time to chill with their fans. No rushing, no complaining, just chilling and chatting with their fans! Now that is what makes a band cool to me!!

Now that they have a major label deal they finnally got a website that's kept updated. Though I miss the charm of Kurts webpage, at least this one gives current tour dates! You can find the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's new site at the same old place http://www.bbvd.com

Here's my tribute to BBVD with some concert memorabilia and the CD I had signed by the band!

Lee Press on and the Nails

"A new dance craze is sweepin' the nation! Everyone says it's a big sensation! Get up off your medication, you gotta start doin' the Big Pants Dance!!"

These guys are the self proclaimed "Jump Swing Band From Hell", and frankly that's not a bad description!! They certainly know how to tear it up and have everyone giving them rave reviews. They're a band out of San Francisco and play regularly at the Hi Ball Lounge in S.F.

Well my luck has finnally changed and I got the chance to catch these guys play at The Derby in Hollywood this past August and man they ROCKED!! The place was packed, but these guys threw out more energy than I've seen in a long time. And they managed to keep it up for all three sets!! This is a band that CD's don't do justice. You must see them live! Trust me, you'll have fun!! If you're in the S.F. area then check them out at the Hi Ball Lounge. I've heard it's a cool club (but has a "dance floor the size of a postage stamp" according to Leslie Presly).

"You see me walkin' as I pass you by, don't talk about me 'cause I could be high. Just forgive me if you will. I live the life I love and I love the life I live" -- Willie Dixon (remade by Royal Crown Revue)

Here's another band I've loved for quite a while now. They are definetly one L.A.'s best swing bands and one of my favorites!! Their "fresh sounds, driving horns, and mean beats" can be found in most local music stores. It seems as though if you're not Big Bad VooDoo Daddy or Cherry Poppin' Daddies your music can't be found in regular music stores (or maybe it's just my awefull luck!), but luckily you can find RCR's latest albums (including a live one) almost anywhere. RCR is also way into merchandising, so you can find all *kinds* of RCR stuff that can be ordered via their website. Check out their website at http://rcr.com

Indigo Swing

This San Francisco based band recently rocked with the Trojans at USC's Swing Night 1998. Though the hall was *way* too crowded to dance comfortably, the night was still a blast, and Indigo Swing was great! Yes, I actually *do* have pics from this swing night (believe it or not!) and they'll be up here soon!

Here's a clip from their webpage that'll give you a better idea of what these guys are about:
"Indigo Swing has made it's way to the top of an [ever-growing] West Coast swing scene through non-stop touring and high octane performances that continue to thrill their [audiences]. The boys of Indigo Swing have stayed true to their roots by forgoing the electric keyboard and traveling with their own acoustic upright piano". Indigo Swing is planning on releasing their debut album on July 14th.
