Here is the database of Whiting State Registration Records. Most of these records are from a company called the Motor Register Company that published and sold to car owners a neat little book titled "Who’s Who In Autos." This record covers pleasure cars that were registered during the first ten months of 1914 in Western New York State. What makes this little book a rare gem, is the listing of "Factory Number of Car" as recorded from official New York State records.

WHITING MODEL A

    I estimate there were about 2000 Whiting Model A Roadsters built for the 1910-12 model years, that break down to 750 units the first year, 1000 units the second, and 250 units the last year. When I first read "Who’s Who in Autos," I found only a few Whitings listed, but then it hit on me that these cars were being registered by their owners as Flints! In the note column, I have tried to document the actual description listed. On the nameplate of these roadsters is listed the name Whiting, the serial number and model, and the manufacturer, "THE FLINT WAGON WORKS Flint, Mich." So I can see how someone could think it was a Flint instead of a Whiting.

WHITING MODEL C

    I have never seen a Model C Touring car. It used a big Ideal four-cylinder engine that had a 4 1//4-inch cylinder bore that was rated at 28 SAE horsepower. The plain 28 hp is the actual figure listed in the records, while the [28] bracketed horsepower figure is my correction for the wrong or no horsepower given. H289 could have been an engine casting number, since I estimate only a batch of 100 Model C’s were ever built. Again, all three of these Model C were registered as "Flints." Since these were 1910 Whiting models, they could have been sold and re-registered as (Flints) used cars some time before 1914?
