Fundraising Concert With Terri Hendrix

Our fundraising concert on Friday, June 14, with Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines was a qualified success. Attendance was a bit low, but the show was fantastic!

We raised $562.75 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Unfortunately, we spent about $400 of our own money to do it, so we did only slightly better than if we had simply written a check to the Society ourselves.   Still, it's not a bad price for an almost private, all-acoustic performance by one of the best live acts around. Check out the pictures below.

We'd like to thank everyone who attended, bought raffle tickets, or donated to the Society. Special thanks go out to

• The Ukrainian League of Philadelphia, who generously waived the fee for the hall due to the light attendance.
• The Standard Tap, and especially Dolly Das, Paul Kimport, and William Reed, for donating a $50 gift certificate for the raffle, and for selling raffle tickets at the bar.
• Stephanie Gates, who baked cookies for us to sell at the show.
• Carrie Clancy and Renee and Anna Maria Szaruga, who helped us with setting up the hall.
• And, of course, to Terri and Lloyd, who not only put on a great show for us, but also generously donated a portion of their fee and their CD sales that night to the Society, and even donated a CD and 4 t-shirts for the raffle.

We'd also like to congratulate our raffle winners:

• Halina, who won the Standard Tap gift certificate.
• Anelka, who got an autographed Terri Hendrix CD.
• Mark, Alex, Randy, and Jason, who each got a Terri Hendrix t-shirt.

We hope to be putting on more events in the future, and hope everyone will continue to support us. And, even if you missed the show, you can still contribute to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by check, money order, or credit card using our donation form.

We dedicated this concert to the memory of our patient-hero, Sara Weaver, who lost her battle with leukemia one week before the show. Her passing, at only 32 years old, emphasizes the need for the kind of research that is funded by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and has increased our determination to surpass our goal of $8000. We want to help other people like Sara to be able to live out their lives free of the suffering that leukemia brings.

The mission of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The Society has dedicated itself to being one of the top-rated voluntary health agencies in terms of dollars that directly fund their mission. The Society supports research, provides services to patients and their families, sponsors public education programs, and supports advocacy efforts with government and private organizations.
