This is a special mattress that is connected to an electric alarm so as to wake the bed wetter early in the show.

Inside the top and bottom mattress covers are wire mesh screens separated by a thin mattress filling material. As you can see, the mesh screens are connected to an alarm circuit.

When the mattress gets wet from one screen to the other, off goes the alarm and off goes the bed wetter to finish the job elsewhere.
