I'm not nuts enough to try to explain how this crazy thing operates, except to say that the hat tipping machine does its job when the hat wearer bows his head.

It lifts the hat slightly off the head and rocks it back a little. When the gentleman has completed his bow, the hat is returned to the head.

I'm sure we all hope that the silly head-clamps are well hidden.
