Well, youve got me curious too, I had started an historical records compilation
as a book I'd intended to publish, but never got very far, and now that I tried
to find what I'd had on disk, I couldnt, but, I did find my Mom's old records on
past catalogs, and found the Banner Mug was not in the 1997 one, but was in the
1998 one, so thats as far back as I could trace it, but there's really probably
no way to tell exactly. We have been making them the same way, no dates. No records
have been kept as to changes in methods or experiments. All I can say is if it
is all brown that is pure mt st helens ash dated 1980-1984 about, then we were by
then entirely glazing things the blue brown and white that you see today. I guess
we never really thought they would become 'collectable', except from the tourism
aspect of it. We were happy just to produce good functional everyday ware., and
were just 'small potatoes' The Banner Mug is still sold at the Made In Oregon Stores.
I dont know if you found my website,, it is still under construction,
http://home.earthlink.net/~schulzporcelain/welcometoschulzporcelainusa
and my Ebay Store at
http://stores.ebay.com/Schulz-Porcelain
Well, thats all I can tell you, except that I will try to add dates on the items
of when we began production, and other historical notes, in the website now, probably
title a page called SP Historical or something,,not sure,,
but, thank you for your question, it has inspired me to do this, and, perhaps one
day the value of our work will grow because of it! We just never wanted to get stuck
with a bunch of dated merchandise that we couldnt sell the next year, and were never
organized enough to number limited editions,, plus, we we up against huge manufactories
that did,, 'limited production of 10,000' etc,, wow, huge numbers, so we just didnt
bother to compete,, Im pretty happy to just still stay small anyway. But I think
there are folks out there wanting to see if what they have is worth alot or not,,
one thing I can say is I did see an all-brown mt st helens ash made by us, which
we used to sell for $3-5.00 each, selling at an online antiques dealers page, asking
for $15.00,, quite a markup, since 1980 when it was made!
Time will only tell, its never the actual artist that gets rich from these dealings,
is it? :)
Well, I think since I have had other inquiries about this sort of thing, I will
copy and paste this into my website (minus your em addy of course!, so other collectors
can read it as well.
Thank you so much, again, for your interest!

Items' Historys -
This Sculptured Porcelain Series was first started in Feb 1981. Before That, only Schulz Stencil Ware
was Produced, June 1978-Feb 1981 The Stencil Ware Line is Discontinued. We have many Gold Lable Stencil Ware pieces, which
may be sold at a later date to interested collectors. Inventory/photos need to be made, again, at a later date. Mt St Helens
Ash was tested in 1980, after the May eruption
and seriious production began Aug.1981. Also at that time, many other colors were tested but were quickly eliminated in favor
of Blue, and the Mt St Helen's Brown Ash. It wasn't until about a year after that that we started doing the added step of
detailing to reveal the white clay, which became the current line of 3-tones which has become the Schulz Porcelain Trademark
Glaze. Following are the intro dates, as available for this entry:
