• Living: 1772, Cripple Creek, Montgomery County, Virginia. Name is listed on Doak's list of tithables. He is paid for providing two beebes and for serving in the militia 8 days during 1774.
• Buy Land: a tract of 154 acres on the South Fork of Cripple Creek, 1774, Montgomery County, Virginia. Land purchased form James Patton's executors. His name is spelled Turtin in the ded.
• Militia: 1774, Montgomery County, Virginia.
• Tried: being involved with the Torries during the Revoutionary War and found not guilty, 1779. He was required to post bond for his good behavior. The following year on November 8, he surrendered himself to the court, and it was their opinion that he be dismissed and "his person and property protected whilst he behaves," otherwise he was to be tried for his past offenses as an enemy of the country.
• He owned 400 aces on the head of Criple Creek in 1781 in Montgomery County, Virginia. Based on a Commissioner's certificate which was assigned to him by John Wisman, assignee of Samuel Henderson. This was to include a survey made for Henderson in 1774, and the tract was settled in 1772.

• Will Proved: 31 May 1820, Wythe County, Virgina. Catherine's Negro girl Mimy was to be sold and the money divided between the six children. All of her property was to be sold immediately after her death and the money divided. Because Mary was deceased, her share was to go to her children, and her son-ion-law Henry Meese was to have $1. Her clothing was to be divided between daughters Elizabeth and Katharine. Son-in-saw 'Chrisllough' (Christley or Christian) Phillippy was to be executor. However he refused to serve and John Stanger was appointed by the court to act as administrator, with the will annexed.
