We have learned how to analyze diffraction images to obtain range (distance) information. The embodiment of a diffraction range finder shown to the right is taken from our basic method patent.

Concept and History

The behavior of diffraction can be controlled so that the view from a perspective center is modified into parallel rays of light.

This compares with conventional triangulation, where the rays from the camera diverge, and the lines of sight are subject to perspective distortion.
