My Watercolors - Sally Bostley
Watercolor Paintings -- Bavaria and Normandy

We spent a lovely spring driving through Bavaria visiting churches, abbeys, castles, lakes, villages and farms. That was followed by an autumn visit to Normandy in France where we also visited the World War II sites that we've not seen in all our visits to France.

Bavarian church

In  the Bavarian region of Germany you drive past these wonderful churches with their onion domes. This one sitting on a hill with its green field and pathway seemed the one most likely to fit into my perfect world.

The Catholic churches are painted and very colorful both inside and out. They are all works of art.

Church in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

This is a Protestant church in Bavaria. These churches are distinguishable by their lack of decoration. In its sere way it is equally beautiful and was delightfully set off by the lawn of spring flowers.

Abbaye du Mondaye in Normandy

This is a working monastery in Normandy. The monks welcome visitors as they did hundreds of years ago. You are welcome to attend services and to walk through the grounds. We were fortunate enough to be able to sing an Evensong with them.

Vivoin Abbaye in Normandy

Vivoin Abbaye has an ecomusee if you are in season. It is a working farm with crafts demonstrations.
