Trained as a traditional hand printmaker, I am intrigued by the richness and variety inherent in the various techniques. Late 20th century printmaking is a dynamic and rapidly changing art form incorporating many different media and some pieces defy classifications altogether. Due to my professional contact with digital media and technology, my artwork has increasing become interdisciplinary in media, combining traditional media with digital techniques.

I am now developing long-term artistic and illustrative book art projects that require me to narrow and solidify my artistic focus and vision. At present, I am investigating methods to merge traditional printmaking and studio techniques with digital software and output technology.

I am a collector of media & techniques and strive for integration between collaged papers, fabric, traditionally and digitally produced images. Each medium has its own unique characteristics. In work characterized by sophisticated elegance, I continue to be fascinated by the layering and coloration of elements. Digital manipulation is kept in balance, not as an instant fix or for mass reproduction of a traditionally produced image. It is used as a tool for integration of typography with the imagery. Layers are left translucent to enhance the textural feel of the surface. Colors have been layered under and over; lyrical lines and textures are balanced within inventive design considerations. My color palette varies from subdued values to sensuous forceful color.

Driving the subject choice in my work is historic iconology.  I enjoy researching symbols and architectural elements related to culture and genre; and to ponder the content, design, color relationships between them. Limitations of culture and gender cause icons to be interpreted differently. By viewing these icons, we hear the forgotten, yet intrinsic memories within ourselves.
