Quikscript (also known as "Quickscript," "Kwikscript," "The Read Alphabet" & "The Second Shaw Alphabet" is an alternate English alphabet. It was designed by Ronald Kingsley Read (referred to commonly as 'Kingsley Read') in 1966. The alphabet is phonetic (meaning words are spelt as they would be if pronounced properly) & uni-case (meaning that there is only one case of letters, unlike normal English which has capital letters & lower-case letters).

For use with PC computers, please download the King Plus Quikscript TrueType font. This is the preferred font for this website. You may also want to download the "Jerome" & "Junior" Quikscript TrueType fonts (not available on this website but available here) for backwards compatibility with other websites using Quikscript. The best font to use for the Ikonboard would be the "kingsley" Quikscript font.

There are two main places for you to interact with others involved in Quikscript - The Yahoo! Quikscript Group & the Ikonboard. The Yahoo! Group has additional files hosted there that would be useful.

Try to practice in short but frequent sessions. For those just starting out, try 15-minute sessions for 3 or 4 times a day. Adjust this accordingly based on your enthusiasm & skill progression. Even if you feel that you are "experienced" in both reading & writing Quikscript, attempt to read & write with it everyday to keep your skill at it's optimum level. Remember - "writing" in Quikscript & "typing" in Quikscript should be regarded as two different activities.

When first attempting to write in Quikscript, try writing larger-than-normal so that you may get a better feel for the letters.
