Elizabeth Sayles has illustrated over 20 books for children including Five Little Kittens (a New York Public Library 100 Books for Reading and Sharing Selection); The Little Black Truck by Libba Moore Gray; and Not in the House, Newton! (Parent's Magazine Best Book).

In reviews, her work has been described as "... deep textured pastels ... with a hint of other worldliness..."

Her newest book, I Already Know I Love You, was written by
Billy Crystal for his new granddaughter. It is a beautiful welcome-to-the-world book.

Her work also appears on bookjackets, in various publications as well as other projects including the videocassette packaging for the DINOSAUR! series produced by A&E cable network. Some of her most recent clients include Delta Airlines, Lands' End, Lord & Taylor, Henry Holt, HarperCollins and Children's Television Workshop.

Before switching to illustration in the late 1980's, Ms. Sayles had her own graphic design studio in New York City. Her clients included A&E, Arista Records, The American Documentary (POV), Fox Lorber Video, New Video and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Ms. Sayles' artwork has been on display at the Society of Illustrators in NYC, The New York Public Library, The Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio, and Edward Hopper Gallery in Nyack, NY. In California her work has been at Every Picture Tells a Story gallery in Los Angeles and Chemers Gallery in Orange County.

In addition to her illustration career, she is an adjunct professor of Illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

In the early 1980's she served as a representative from the NY Chapter to the National Graphic Artist Guild where she learned that she dislikes politics. However, she remains a member and a staunch advocate for artists' rights.

She also visits local schools, libraries and bookstores to show children how artists work and how children's books are created.

She attended Philadelphia College of Art (1974-1977) and also studied at the School of Visual Arts. She works in Valley Cottage, NY where she lives with her husband, their daughter and two cats.
