Rumors have been flying for quite some time about the demolition of the historic white house that sits in the middle of the Croydon Hall complex in Middletown Township. The "friends group" wants to encourage the Township who owns the house and land to view the site as an asset to the community, and join us in the fight to save the house and restore it to its former beauty.

Although the MacLeod-Rice House still strikes an impressive figure, the years have taken their toll both inside and out. Maintenance has not kept pace with the needs of the building, and it is time for extensive repairs to ensure the structure's existence for the future.

The many visitors to the house on Middletown Day underscore the importance of the MacLeod-Rice House to the people of Middletown Township. With an "adaptive reuse" plan in place, the house could serve the community in many ways. With the support of the Township, coupled with grants and private donations, we feel the building could be restored to its original 19th-century grandeur in an expedient and fiscally responsible manner.
The "friends group" will raise a collective voice in helping save this important local landmark by encouraging the Township to start thinking of the house as an important building that can be restored and reused for the benefit of the entire community!

We will be nominating the house for the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places, and will be applying for grants to help maintain the building. Please join us in our mission!
